Hey Poet Sappho, Just because something angers and upsets a lot of people doesn't necessarily make it a big problem. Look at the death of Michael Jackson. And Bonkai, who was being falsely accused? If Gates would just have shown his ID when asked and maybe given an explanation as too why a neighbor might have seen two dudes putting a shoulder to the front door, there would have been no accusation. The beers in the garden are today. I would love for Crowley to tell Gates and Obama what's up. Truth is that everyone overreacted in this thing. Gates overreacted first. Crowley didn't have to arrest Gates, but Gates did curse him out and made yo mama comments. Then Obama had to wade into this thing, and without knowing the facts make this a race issue and said the cops acted stupidly. Go Crowley, show'em what's up!!!
I dont know about you, but I definitely wouldnt want a cop coming onto MY property, and demanding to see my ID. That would NOT fly.
exactly! Too many are too complacent; why not just give up your rights? why not just conform and obey? makes everything much easier.
yeah, Crowley's really gonna show The President of the United States "what's up". I fully support Obama in this; he stood up to the piggies.
Are you fucking kidding,"who was being falsely accused" did you even read the story?! Gates had no idea the cops were on their way because in his mind he was doing nothing wrong, and he wasn't. He gave the police his ID, the cop called it in and confirmed his identity. There was no crime taking place and the cops confirmed that. yet the thin-skinned cop decided to abuse his power and take Gates to jail because Gates wasn't acting the way be wanted him to. Fuck the race issue, the issue that should widely be covered and acknowledged is the amount of power and the ease to abuse such power police officers have. It's a shame that you can be accused of a crime, proven innocent yet go to jail anyways because the cops feels like it (boo hoo, he didn't say "bless you" when I sneezed ).
if i were crowley and obama invited me to share a beer and a 'teachable' moment i woulda given them both the finger
Comming at this issue as a hippie ( this is still a hippie web site isn't it? ) Obviously, Gates is not a stoner. If he was dirty, he would have behaved politely to Crowley. Who wants to be searched anyway? Everybody on this website knows better than to antoginise a cop. Even in your own home. Well Gates got his 15 minutes of fame and I'm sure its helping the sales of his books over there at Barnes & Noble. As for Obama. it took courage to stage his lil peace conference. The President has the dexterity and balance to pull something like this off. Kudos. I could not see previous presidents acomplishing what Obama did. For folks who are concerned about police overstepping thier boundaries, how about a budget cut? Less funding means less police gong on a fishing expedition. Why are we spending so much money. Why are you supporting funding such overreach? How about a few layoffs in Cambridge ? It would do more send a message than a telephone book full of new rules & regulations.
W-e-l-l-l... Not everyone....My old man and myself have both "antagonized" the state cops on our own property, more than once, but we were in the right and there was nothing they could do about it. Too many witnesses. Well, one time old manwas told to produce his ID, was allowed to walk back to the house to get it while the cop sat in the road. DUMB!!!!!! Old man went upstairs, got his ID, looked at both cops thru the scope of his gun, then went back with the ID and TOLD them how stupid they just were. Those cops have never come back, and that was several years ago... Myself, I find as much corruption and scandal as I can locally and then post on my blog for the world to read about it, no holds barred. Yea, I need to be careful about going out alone in my car at night now. But otherwise, the spotlight is on them and they TRY to stay away from us... Yea, but how do you stop it?
Very dumb and makes one wonder what exactly they were trained to do. The police are nothing more than public servants. They are not heroes or gods they are low level employees of government. Paid to protect the citizens of this country, not instilled with more virture or heroics than any other citizen, and should be held to a higher standard not a lower one.
Pretty much straight up Mafia in this City, it's the Deputies that are the real concern. They aren't very good at lowering brain waves, the City police are much better at that but abuse that. This thread brought to mind Obama listening to rap, something about Fuck the police. Well, I never did get into Rap, word associations are to damn powerful.
So it sems that Prof Gates was channeling Stephanie Pollard . Well it got her 15 minutes of fame and the Miss New York show. Now Prof Gates is famous too. In this unfortunate confluence of acedemia and reality T.V. it seems acedemia has come out for the worse, the backstory is a question of how many more drama queens are ensconced in acedemia?
HAHAHHAHAHA Fuckin' HILARIOUS I would never condone killing a cop, but there are so many crooked ones out there (No evidence that Crowley was one of them.) that sometimes we have to look out for our own best interests, screw the bastard pigs. Most cops are good, though, and are there to keep us safe. When some fucker comes and breaks into my house, if I can't get to my .38 cause I'm in the other room or whatever, I pray those cops show up quick.
