so i'm probably going to make "the machine" for when i try DMT... hopefully next week. i'm a little sketched out about using steel wool to smoke though... about chemicals and all. has anyone here used this method before? how do you know when you've burned off the crappy things on the steel wool? also, should i light it on fire to burn them off or is it okay to just hold the flame to get it hot, but not actually ignite it? i'm talking about the step where you "clean off" the wool even before you put it into the pipe. thanks for any help.
AFOAF used the steel chore boy and held it with needle nose pliers and heated it over the stove until it turned orange...he's said he's pretty sure that burned off anything that have might been on it.
so the steel chore boy actually turned orange after he burned it? how long did he hold it over the stove? besides turning bright red what are other indications that it is safe to use? what side of the steel wool should i put the DMT in (close to the neck opening of the bottle, nearer the flame or should i drop it through the mouthpeice so it sits nearer the center of the bottle, with the steel in between the DMT and flame)? how do i "charge"? is this even necessary?
should i look for a specific type (size, thickness, etc)? also, should i look for something that suggests it's pure steel (are there other, dangerous chemicals added to certain brands but not others, that sort of thing)?
im not sure what your using it for so i cant give you any advice there. i just know smoking anything out of copper is a no no.. dont get those brillo pads with detergent in them from the grocery store. i would recommend a hardware store because they have different grades of steel wool. if it says steel wool. thats all it is is steel wool. steel wool actually makes a great fire starter.. YouTube - How to start a Fire with Steel Wool and a Battery
yeah i understand about the copper! i would be using it to smoke DMT freebase... i think i understand it , more or less. i guess it's trial and error from here. thanks.
Yeah, can't answer your questions 100% because my FOAF is still doing the trial and error things as well. He used real steel wool but kept catching it on fire (lol) even when holding the flame far away. He heated up the chore boy till it glowed red, then cooled and put that it in there. This has worked the best so far for him...though he knows it could still be a lot better. He is going to use paper matches next time, as everyone keeps saying that it makes a really big difference. (not sure why,...lower temp?)
yes it would be because of the lower temp. your friend also may be using too fine of a wool if its burning up on him. like i said i aint quite sure what your doin but i have a general idea. i would recommend a denser steel wool and paper matches..lol
