I know people who suffer from this problem, and I am sure I fall prey to it from time to time. Does it apply to social skills as well? For example, could it apply a person's ability to exercise good judgment, show genuine compassion and use self control?
Well that's probably preferable to knowing you're an idiot. At least they have some confidence, and that alone can get things done.
overall, i disagree, because obviously if you're wrong you're wrong. but honestly, confidence is very important and i kind of support this idea to an extent.
I think with the internet people like to take advantage of the increased sense of power they feel they have being anonymous behind a computer screen and in the security of their home, which they don't have in real everyday life. Would this "effect" apply to people who only display these characteristics on the internet?
Unless you've spoken to him or heard him talk about his own genius I don't see how you can know that. Its the public who thinks he is a genius, if he wants to keep writing because of that then more power to him. Even if he is a bad writer he has good ideas as well. He is worth having around.
they can be the same thing really... like at work, i rarely know what i'm talking about, but i say everything with complete and utter confidence so everyone just assumes that i'm right no matter what i say, so basically what i say goes. right or wrong is irrelevant; it's mostly in the way i present myself.
'Act as if', you can fool anyone, who cares if you're wrong, if other people are so convinced by your confidence to believe what you say, you deserve to be right.
There is something wrong with his writing. he is either passing shit off as fact that isn't (granted he writes fiction, but, the inconsistent means by which he does it is troublesome) for shits and giggles, or because he doesn't know better. if it's for shits and giggles, I'm offended, bad information is toxic if it's because he doesn't know better, he is a victim of dunning kruger. And thank you for calling me on that I was checking to see if anyone would
I just assumed if I was crazy enough, to infer Shamanism and Karma...I have everlasting fantasy power..........ya know to end everything, or leave it up. I think Wiki drives people insane as does most things, it's really all fucked up. The cure is the cause, I never found balance just negative surety.
I think that he assumes that anyone smart enough to enjoy his reading (average intelligence essentially) would be smart enough to take any scientific claims in his books with a grain of salt. Its the censorship argument. Information is not toxic if the reader/viewer is aware it is not to be taken seriously. Its definitely possible. You just can't be sure though. In my experience most 'celebrities' are fairly humble about the extent of their talents. Its generally nobodies and failed writers that seem so be unrealistic about their own abilities, as far as I see anyway. Of course there are exceptions, like most rockstars. You trickin me foo?
he writes for the masses, any author that can get a dumbass to read is good <i would have said in my books but that pun is disgusting> i often under play myself what's that called smartass?
Why are people so eager to ascribe names to everything? If a person displays these characteristics, well then they must have this, or if they display those characteristics, then they must have that. Unless there is a test based on a person's brain chemistry or structural abnormalities, then I wonder how they can correctly "diagnose" someone. The answer is they can't and psychology is, as I always thought, pure bullshit.
it's toxic because lots of people pretend that he's a good author, he's an OKAY author, with, yes, some good ideas. lotta people pretended hitler was a good author too, and that is where the danger came from. people who seem intelligent, because they are confident in their intelligence, whether it is there or not, support a worldview that is toxic, dangerous. and it spreads to those less confident for whatever reason, both who are intelligent, and those who aren't. it isn't NEARLY as dangerous as hitler. but it is a quieter subversion.
