Most bands talked about here are not Garage.

The Sonics, The Dirtbombs, The Seeds, The Stooges, 13th Floor Elevators, The Remains, The Black Lips and even the Hives are garage.

but not the Beatles or the Doors, etc.

 

It says psychedelic and garage.

But just another point: I know The Doors was "slipstream" something between mainstream and underground (underground includes garage, protopunk...). It was music which grew up from underground but had a mainstream succes. Same as a Pink Floyd.
