Anyone read this bizarre book by Dalton Trumbo? It's about a kid who goes off to World War I and looses all his limbs, eyes, ears, etc. Totally fucked up, but it make one hell of an anti-war story.

I read it in college and it stuck with me for a long, long time. Extremely well written and graphic. I agree it's the best anti war book ever. This post reminded me to find it and re-read it. Thanks!

I've been looking for it because my dad told me it was a really good book and we have a lot of similar tastes in books. Of course my school library didn't have it, but I haven't checked the public library yet.

I read it long ago.Sure shows the stupidity of being the cannon fodder for the warmongers-from any side of any war.Problem is/was,there are necessary wars and fodder does not get to chose which are and which are not.He was blacklisted in Hollywood and had to write scripts under a pseudonym.

I started it in grade school for Drop Everything And Read. But it was boring to me.

That was an awesome book. Written from a most unique perspective, this is probably the best book of it's kind.

I finally got around to reading it. It was an amazing book. I came away feeling very frustrated, but in a good way, if that makes sense? As in, frustrated with what happened to the poor soldier?

But definitely read it! Very touching and worthwhile.
