Only snag with that is that you'll never get to enjoy the freedom of going barefoot with everyone else knowing it and accepting it. Even if you can be 100% confident that you'll be able to go hassle free all the time, you'll still know in your mind that you're pandering to people who wouldn't give you the time of day if they knew you were barefoot. I much prefer to know where I am welcome and where I'm not. I can then avoid places where I'm not. There's nothing better than going barefoot somewhere where most people wouldn't and still being treated the same as everyone else.
That's why I rarely put them on. However, there are situations in which I know it's likely I'd get busted (e.g. dining at many restaurants with table service), and in those circumstances I'd rather just take the precaution up front. As with most, I much prefer naked feet with no pretense of footwear. I made my barefoot sandals a few months ago, but have only worn them out a few times. Most of those excursions were just to see if they were effective. Since those initial tests, yesterday was the first time I put them on. Nonetheless, my experience suggests barefoot sandals are effective in letting me go essentially barefoot in situations in which it wouldn't be accepted. It is a weird sensation to wear them. With the loop around my toe and ankle, I have the sensation I'm wearing a conventional sandal. As soon as I step out of the car and my bare sole hits the pavement, there's a sudden realization that my soles are exposed. It's an interesting sensation. I remain a barefoot purist, however.
I picked up a set of leather laces today and followed your directions to make a pair of my own. Here they are.
Excellent - ya done good! You could trim the excess length if you want to minimize the excess around your ankles, but they look good!!
