I haven't ripped in months and months and I'm noticing that at the roots the hairs go every direction into dreads, so there aren't clear sections but rather hairs criss-crossing into their individual dreads.

At this point it is impossible to rip them apart

So I guess my question is, am I gonna have a shit ton of congos eventually, or are the dreads gonna stay separate even though the roots are seemingly somewhat intertwined?

eh sorry if this is a bit unclear just didn't know how to describe it :p

personally I'm thinking congos. On a slightly related note a lot of my roots are a bit like tree roots in that they seem to be composed of a dozen or so mini dreads that spread about the scalp, I dont know if thats what your describing, but i rip mine.

This is precisely why I didn't go neglect, I would have had a hell of a time getting them in sections...I only backcombed the front, and let the back do whatever, and it is really just a big mess. I feel like if I don't start ripping soon, it'll be one big one in no time at all.
And mine are only almost two months old, but know like crazy. I've tried to rip apart the back, but it seems impossible. At one place, there is two giant mess dreads connected by a ladder-shaped layer of hair, from root to tip..I may just have to cut that!

At other places though it is connected for about an inch at the root...I'm hoping they stay like that. They probably won't.

yeah pypes I think that's what it is and yeeay congos. I want mine to look like yours

and Sarah, the parts I backcombed in front are pretty well sectioned but the neglect parts underneath and in back are insane, I just gave up ripping after a while cause it was painful and they would be joined up again in a week anyway. so now I have some mondo dreads and more to come it would seem

I leave mine for a couple of months and then rip em and they're fine. just a few stary hairs fucking the wrong dread. I think any congo is possible to rip unless you leave it for years which you'd definitely notice :cheers2:

Your gonna have a shit ton of congos...eventually, "eventually" is a little vague for a definition of time but congos are inevitable given enough time.

and pypes, I got the tree root thing going on too, I think it looks cool. :peace:

its never impossible to rip dreads apart, its just about how much pain you want to put your head in. I can never actually manage to rip my dreads down to the scalp anyway, so I just rip as far as I can.

that happened to me really bad around 6-8 months. i would leave it for like a month and it would get sooo bad. you will definitely have congos, some really big i would say.
but after a year and a half or so, i didnt have to rip nearly as often.
