I'm trying to download WINE the windows emulator but it just wont seem to work. I tried to add it using the add/remove feature but it wont allow me to select it. I can click on it and more information comes up but it will not allow me to tick the selection box for some reason! I tried to use the terminal to add it following the instructions on the wine website but it asks for my password and then it wont actually type anything...so I click enter and try type the password on the next line but it says it failed. I really have no clue when it comes to ubuntu so any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Peace and love.
hi did you try the sudo apt-get install command? if you want to use a interface make sure you have root priveledges peace raysun
Yes, with the terminal, you have to install using sudo-.... which basically gives you administrator privileges. And to grant permission to do so, you'll have to type in a password, which is sounds like you've arrived at. One thing that still bugs me, when you go to type in your password in the terminal, it won't show that you're typing. Just type your password in and hit enter. It should go through. Best of luck!
It doesn't show your password or anything symbolic of a character. This way, prying eye's can't count how many letters/numbers you use in your password. ^ highlight and copy that text into the terminal. Then type your password and press ENTER on the keyboard. After that, highlight the last many lines the terminal outputs, right-click -> copy, then come back here and post right-click -> paste. Otherwise, use something like this: DD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3CxYcPPuU0 Tada!
What do have have selected under Software Sources? Makes sure you have "All Applications" clicked in Add/Remove Programs and in Software Sources you have Universe selected as installable. 8.04 and 8.10 were good, but in 9.04 all of the bugs I had met are gone
Yeah, I don't use Ubuntu anymore, because I just got a new laptop, but if I recall correctly, you MAY have to add the WINE address thing to your repositories list. There should be information about that on the WINE website though. @OP; did you get this to work?
