Hey all, I just got this message from skywatch.com: Increased Solar activity has triggered a massive geomagnetic storm around the Earth causing auroras (northern lights) to appear in far more southerly locations than usual. An aurora was seen as far south as Arizona. You need a very dark sky to see an aurora. If you’re lucky enough to be in such a location, take a look towards the northern horizon and you might get to see an aurora. (If you are south of the equation, looks towards the south.) Just wanted to pass on the news to any who are interested.
We've seen it a few times over the past week in mid/northern ohio. The first night we saw it (monday, perhaps?) it was the most active display of lights I have ever witnessed in Ohio. There were subtle hints of blue and red in a band of light that stretched far across the sky, just above the horizon. But overhead the displays were amazing. There was so much activity that it made the sky shimmer, like a wave of light passing overhead. Cheesy descriptions, but it definately was a great show.
maybe they can also be seen in Ohio. They can look for the Northern Lights in the sky till the next elections!
