How long should my hair be to start dreading?

I want to dread my hair. Unfortunately, I recently cut my long hair. How long should your hair be to be dreaded? What would you guys suggest?

 

doesn't matter my shorter hair in the back has dreaded much better than my long hair in the front

 

It all depends Didymus Doppelgänger.....
Some people here started there dreads with around 4-7 inches of length, and some like me started with shoulder length hair, it all depends on how you are willing to deal with them growing and changing...

longer initial hair length will be instant gratification because you will see results faster...imo

Dear Doppel, dreadlocks are not on your head, they are in your mind.
Therefore, you do not need a certain lenght of hair to dread it.

LMAOOOOO!! I was going through this period of collecting the most ridiculous hats I could find. This is the first and last time I wore it. I feel for it. It's had a hard life. It was a make shift cat litter tray when my tom was just too fucking lazy to use the actual tray. Now it's in a plastic bag wrapped up festering in its own mould.
