Vonnegut is one of my favorite authors. I've read "Slaughterhouse Five," "Cat's Cradle," "Player Piano," "Palm Sunday," and "Harrison Bergeron," and I'm currently starting "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater."

He's a very thematic author and manages to reconcile it with being absolutely hysterical, completely human and extremely pointed. The only contemporary author that can come close to him is Chuck Palahniuk.

If you're just starting out, I'd recommend "Slaughterhouse Five" or "Cat's Cradle." Don't start with "Player Piano," as that one dragged on-- it takes a bit more patience. "Cat's Cradle" is the book that made me fall in love with his writing-- I'd recommend starting there. If everyone read that book, the world would be a much better place. The short story "Harrison Bergeron" or the book "Slaughterhouse Five" are also great places to start.

    Happy reading!

    i absolutely adore vonnegut.
i have read every single book he published, including every collaboration i could find.

for an introduction to vonnegut i would recommend timequake or wampeters, foma, & granfalloons. (i hope i spelled that one right, i haven't looked at that book in a good while).

i highly recommend armageddon in retrospect for anyone that loves vonnegut, it was just published recently& posthumously by his son. it feels like a bit of an intrusion on kurt's privacy and work, but really and truly it's incredible.

also, if there's one thing of his i did not like, it was player piano. it literally took me two years to get myself to get all the way through it.

last but not least, as far as favorites go: sirens of titan is probably mine. i absolutely love it. though honestly it's very hard to decide, because once you've gotten through all of his books, you have to start over again because it all starts to run together.

I've been trying to get through Bluebeard, and actually I find it quite slow paced and unremarkable, compared to some of his other work. It consists of the recollections of the life and loves of an ageing abstract expressionist artist, together with accounts of this artist's current living situation.

Breakfast of Champions is a good'n, but Slaughterhouse Five is my favorite Vonnegut novel. Player Piano is also a decent read. Slow to start, but definitely worth your time.

Vonnegut is definitely my favorite satirical author. He is a glorious man, as most easily recognize.

I've read Cat's Cradle, Slaughterhouse-Five, Breakfast of Champions, Jailbird, and Galapagos.

Ever read I Am Legend by Richard Mathesson
or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K Dick?

I've read both. Phillip K Dick is masterful. If you have only read DADES, I suggest you check out some of his other works. They're all solid.

I adore Vonnegut. I read Timequake first. I think Breakfast of Champions is my favourite of his books (thus far), though.
