so we had just laid down and the dogs started barking.. normally they will chase whatever they bark at. this time they just kept barking underneath the carport. the cocker spaniel inside the house wouldnt shut up either so dilli got up and let the cocker spaniel out.. as the cocker spaniel went charging out there was this HUGE ASS black bear on the back porch and he jus swatted the cocker spaniel across the carport.. he then figured he was in the wrong spot and took off with my great pyrenees in hot pursuit.. the cocker spaniel seems fine other than a bears paw print across his back..lol dilli said she figures the bear went about 400 pounds,,.. its dark and raining so i aint about to go checking on the feed shed, goats etc. im sure the animals are fine,im hoping the feed shed is. we have about 3 months of critter food in there.. ahh hell i probably am gonna get dressed and go check the feed shed.. wow what a rush..
shit, that sucks. it's not TERRIBLE if he didn't have munchies before he came to the house. omnivorous bastards that they are.
poor dilli about lost it when the cocker went flying yelping all the way.. i think he just circled back around.. im fixing to be brave and go check on the feed shed.. with my shotgun loaded with slugs of course...
I am glad the dog is ok, I probably would have fraked if I saw the bear swat at one of my dogs. Hopefully the bear has moved on and left the feed alone!
well he found the feed shed but didnt get in.its a old incubater building and the doors on it are refrigerator type doors that way about 100 pounds and double latch. he tore the piece of metal off between them but didnt get in. what that means is he is gonna be a nuisance for a while.he aint gonna give up that easy. bears that are that brave usually aint scared off by dogs,.. as was evident tonight.. hopefully he wont be back tonight and i will secure the feed shed better than it already is in the morning..
hell of it is, if we call dnr and this bear has already been moved once they will just shoot it after they catch it but if i was to kill it outta season, and get caught, nuisance bear or not they would put me under the jail.. take my guns, take my hunting license, and fine me out the ass.. dont mean i wouldnt kill him if i felt my life was in danger. just means i would make sure i didnt get caught.. sure you could say your life was endangered, but then you would have to prove it..
lol.. i am sure there will be paw prints around tomorrow (hopefully, its been raining ). i will do my best to get a pic.. cant help ya with pics of the actual incident. you will have to take my word on it..
no farmlaws? or exemptions?...I'm pretty sure up here any farmer can shoot wildlife if they threaten his farm animals
No reason not to take your word I’m sure it’s fairly common down there as it is up here, to have the occasional moose, deer, or black bear wander into someone’s backyard creating a ruckus. Hotwater
nope only way is if you feel your life is in danger, which again, you have got to prove that .. that could be more trouble than its worth.otherwise they want you to call them and they will trap it and see if its been relocated before. hell of it is they only relocate them up into the wilderness about 10 miles away.. thats where they take all the nuisance bears in north georgia.. needless to say things like this happen a good bit this time of year but this is the first time ones been on the porch here and definitely the first time ones sent a dog of ours flying..lol i may call dnr tomorrow and clarify the law.i hate to though. after dealing with them at the sanctuary i know how heartless they are about these things and im betting this bear would wind up dead..
no we actually thought he killed one though. its a miracle"oh no" (the cocker spaniel) wasnt hurt..our Great Pyrenees chased after him but came back unscathed.. sorry if i didnt make myself clear, like i said i was already in bed and then this happened.. my brain is a bit loopy.. and on that note i think im gonna try an get some sleep.. will try an get some pics in the mornin.. night all.
