my dreads are about 7 months old now, and i've never had any trouble with them so far. about 2 or 3 weeks ago they started itching. its so bad that it wakes me up. i've tried a lot of things. first, i thought may be lice, but i've checked 6 times, and no one has ever found anything. i even bought a chemical free, no comb lice removal kit and tried it, just incase. i've done ACV rinses, baking soda, tea tree oil. everything i can think of, and nothing works. i'm getting to the point of brushing out because i can't stand it anymore. the only thing that helps is washing, but its only a temporary fix. 24 hours later and its itching again. i don't want to have to wash my dreads every day, thats part of the reason for getting them. any suggestions as to what i can do before i have to brush them out? i can't stand it much longer.

have you changed shampoo or house lately, could be a difference in water type

i did change the shampoo i was using, but i haven't used it since i did the ACV and baking soda cleanse. so i thought maybe if that was the problem, it would have stopped, although its only been a few days.

you might try a rosemary tea. Seek out the user bcmama. She has a really good thread with lots of herbal remedies for all sorts of problems. Send her a PM and I am sure she would be happy to help you if you need more in depth solutions.

try just rinsing with water only. There are a lot of on here that don't use soap or shampoo in our hair. Water works good for cleaning, while leaving all the natural oils in place to not dry your scalp out.

its quite likely that this is the problem your head was used to one thing and now you have messed it up, go back to whatever you were using and the broblem should go away soon enough

I highly doubt its the tangled hair causing the itch. It's no doubt a dry scalp. If all else fails just start using water for a while and eliminate all soap additives. It takes almost a month after using soap in my hair before my scalp balances back out to it's natural state. Up until them it itches like crazy, sometimes will bleed, and have load of dandruff and buildup.

No changes in laundry powder etc? Have your dreads suddenly changed in maturity and/or become a lot tighter at the roots, or have you been wearing your hair in a style that allows even less root movement/stimulation than usual? I usually get an itchy phase following the new growth tightening itself up a bit, which seems to happen sometimes.

U may be Tenshi (this is so much easier than trying to master your numbers... do you mind? :)), could be the length of your hair or something maybe... not sure.

I got the itchies terrible and made a thread titled "Itch itch itching" I think. lol Anyway, I was getting it from using the KNotty Boy soap. The only thing that stopped the itching for me was baking soda... it seemed to cut down on the gross scummy stuff on my scalp that was causing the itch.

I don't mind... much rather see Tenshi than 73nsdflskfoainvso

I suppose it may have something to do with pulling on the scalp from the weight of the dread... maybe uneven tension. It would explain why people get the itchies after getting dread extensions. If that's right though, I'd expect people to get itchies when adding beads to their dreads as well.

Just thinking about this more, if that's what it is, then anything that releases the tension would help stop it... so I would expect anything that moisturizes the roots to help.

or maybe I'm thinking too much.
