Can the spiritual development regress?

Hi,
I have the following question? Let say a person(me or somebody else) makes an effort in this lifetime for spiritual growth. But in the next lifetime the environment where the person is born is not suitable for spiritual development (bad parents, bad society, bad habits, etc) What happens with the spiritual development? Does it regress?

 

I have been wondering the same thing myself.

I will go through periods of intense progress and then an event in my life (like a move some other distraction) will get me down to the point where i feel as if i have made no progress at all. i know whatever positive steps i make are still there somewhere, but it seems to dissipate

 

It has been said (Bhagavad Gita, I believe) that one cannot die at a lower level of spiritual attainment than what was realized in one's previous life.

 

Being born into hardship is not bad for spiritual development. It actually makes you stronger. I would think it would be the opposite -- if you have no challenges, there's not much to build upon.

 

Well spokin. My life has been no were near easy, i Have multiple felonys to prove it at the age of only 20. I must say that my upbringing put me in situations were i could not be weak phisicall or mentally. After my rehibilitation as a prisoner i worked on my rehabilitation as a soul and have for once in my life peace with myself. Meditation is the most beautifull thing. I have recently experienced kundalini and i can say for a fact that the regular person uses less than 10 percent of his spiritual and mental capacity. Distraction is not external only internal. I could meditate in the middle of a highway and not feel a breeze. Its all under your control its all perception.

You are making one fundamental assumption - that re-incarnation exists.

I probably need to elaborate on the above point before the thread explodes into a novel!
From people that have attained Enlightenment and my own profound realizations from having my third eye opened the romantic ideal of re-incarnation doe not exist.
However --- there is some aspect of truth in it, here we go …

Everything is energy and it is neither created nor destroyed so you can have energies in your aura that have existed around other beings. With hypnosis or deep meditation you can tune into the energies and got a lot of information that can be validated - the conclusion people draw is that they are a re-incarnation of the being they have tuned into.

There are many case of several people all claiming to be re-incarnated from the same person.


You only have one shot to attain Enlightenment and it is in your lifetime

Nicely put... People like to put reincarnation in a box nicely wrapped with a bow. It is true no energy is lost, try not to focus on the past but only look at the present.

 

What comprises the 'You' that has only one shot to attain Enlightenment in the lifetime? What happens with the 'You' if it fails to attain Enlightenment in this lifetime?

 

The "you" that has only this lifetime is the personality shell that the spirit came down into in order to experience and through experience, to Grow.
The soul brings the vibrations of a lifetime....the overview the short-timer personality imprints... into the "next short-timer. And because of this, it is possible to devolve, should one wish to think linearly. The abiding energy carries on...the why when one attains levels of enlightenment it is soo important that one spends time practicing it rather than passing right over. To flavor the life ...so to speak....lol.
Spirit is Connected to the One and All....and so never really breaks that Connection. But the Awareness of the soul can veil the Awareness of Spirit even as the Awareness of the short-timer can veil the Awareness of the soul....yah the 3 in 1.

And again so much is the perspective and Awareness....it really comes down to the individual for the shortimer in this Now....you See , each Chooses with each Now what to believe, how to perceive, what to focus on , what to dwell in.

Empowering OneSelf takes those powers of choice and combines the Awareness that we are here to grow with each experience and uses them to Grow Beyond what was.

linearly speaking....which BTW...is pretty much of a necessity as material shells immersed in time.... mystics try to explain. but so much depends upon what the individual will open to.

Even the most "debased lifetime" serves as fodder for the growth of the All/One.

heh...clarity is often something that each must discern....the Work of each lifetime

Your circumstances today are similar to those from other times. What you do in this life determines where you start next time. Also, a huge amount can be accomplished in even one life. So if you have spiritual inclinations, consider them from carry over, also all your other inclinations. But again, remember this, one can make huge very huge strides in one lifetime.

 

You can become shrouded by darkness, troubling thoughts, etc. You can even join the dark side like Annakin. You can't go backward, however. It can seem like you're going backward. Your soul is always there. The veil will lift much more easy after progressing on the path.

 

just like your body, you can change things forever...and you can change them back...but the past will always be there

Lead a life of what have you, as dedicated as you may. Change your chosen path and past energy comes flying back one day
