However here is my situation. My cook is from El Salvador. She is wonderful and slightly insane cook.

All of her life she has lived in thatch topped houses with no electricity.

She had never seen a microwave before.

It is a complicated situation. I trust the mean old El Salvidor cook. She has proved her loyalty to me. (This is worth gold to me.)

But it is really hard to show her how to do things. Sometimes it is more effort than it is worth.

She is slowly figuring out there is more than one way to cook chicken.

I am a great cook but because of my position I am not allowed in my kitchen. It is a Central American class thing. Strange I know.

But I have to adapt to the ways of the locals.

Most people that actually live in Belize would be afraid to live where I am.

I am sure you understand that the cook and housekeeper have access to almost the entire house? I have security factors.

The only way I am getting another cook is if it is my girlfriend or wife. Of which I have neither.

Until then I can have Chinese food brought in when I need a break.

dang, my friend was going to take me to the grocery today. i hope it happens, but i haven't heard from her in about an hour and a half, when i got a brief unrelated text message. i sent a reply to hers and also asked if the grocery is still possible today....but no reply

i'm too poor to pay for delivery groceries.

i can ride the bus, and it's free because i'm a student, but it takes about half an hour there and half an hour back, and the buses only run hourly on sunday i think (if at all) and it's just a real pain in the ass. plus i would fear meat spoiling waiting for a bus outside in the heat for about an hour. probably not a very sound fear, but it makes me nervous regardless.

Snakes, bats, scorpions, and a host of other shit can happen.

Imagine the feeling when the electricity goes off and you realize that you are not alone in your room. Is that a Snake or a harmless lizard?

It would be very easy for someone who is not living in the environment to make that assumption.

It is also easy to make assumptions when you do not know the layout of my house.

I would love to have you as a guest in my jungle. It might open your eyes.

anyway, i'm less hungry now, i heated up a can of vegetable barley soup. it wasn't awful.
