I am very impressed with the hospital where Akina was born. None of our kids were born at the same hospital, and the other two hospitals were just crap. When Skye was born, he was at a hospital where the nurses were extremely rude, every time he wimpered they tried to shove a pacifier down his throat, and everytime I would go to visit I had to argue with the nurse about something. She just didn't seem to like me, and obviously in todays society fathers are nothing more than sperm doners. Axi's hospital was a bit better, though she still had to spend a lot of time in the nursery, and the people there weren't great either, damn formula pushers, every one. Akinas hospital has a lot of very nice nurses, who seem willing to help. They encourage us to have the baby in our room with us, and I might add they gave us a rather large room, with a cot for me and the other two children, instead of us sleeping on the pull-out back breaker chair. They strongly encourage breast feeding. In fact, they were extremely happy when they found out we were going to breastfeed, and I haven't even heard formula mentioned since. On the couple of times we put Akina in the nersury, we came back to clean diapers. Plus they have a family lounge area, which is always stocked with free cereal, pastries, fruit, milk, juice, pudding, ice cream and other goodies.

Very nice! I think it's so important to have a good experience when you go to a hospital when giving birth. With my first baby, it was also awful! The nurses didn't give a damn that you were there or if you needed anything. The day after my emergency c-section, I was told that I shouldn't call them to help me get out of bed. I had to actually get up out of bed on my own with the baby in my arms, lift him up to his little crib and walk myself when I had to go to the bathroom...it hurt so much! I actually ended up leaving the hospital at 9pm because I couldn't handle the nurses anymore! The whole thing was a terrible experience.

With my next two babies, I delivered here in Flagstaff...they were wonderful! Even though I had a c-section, they did everything they could to make it a wonderful natural experience. My babies were laid on my chest after delivery and I was able to have skin-to-skin contact in recovery just minutes after. I nursed both of my babies within 15 minutes of their birth and they NEVER left my sight the entire hospital stay! With the baby I had in May, I was sad that they were going to take her to the nursery for a bath because I didn't want to miss it. The nurse came back a few minutes later and brought a heater so she could bathe her right next to me, so she never had to be taken away! They also did not allow me to get out of bed alone or walk until they were sure I could do it, they told me to call them to help (so different than the first hospital). She had a big sign on her bed that said "I'm a breastfed girl" and I never saw any formula, paci's or bottles while I was there. It was a great experience!
