I would like to start a thread entitled fave left wing nutter, but instead I think I will just show you an example of a sane left wing intelectual - Christopher Hitchens. Below are examples of two of his books. The first one a damning indictment of a former senoir American defence secretary for war crimes committed in Korea and Vietnam. The other a forceful argument for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.
No I have read Regime Change and you should read it too! It is an excellent set of essays on why Saddam should have been overthrown. It also takes every argument put forward by the anti-war movement, analysises each one and explains why each anti-war argument is either irrelevent, misguided or plain wrong.
You idiot...Hitchens is a pisshead who let's his mouth get him into trouble. Which is precisly why he's been accused of being a holocaust denier. Anything else I can help you with? I take it you never heard the term 'LUSH's FOR BUSH'??
Well I wish I could convince you guys that the war to oust Saddam was a just war. I wish I could also convince you that the current war to defeat Islamic fundamentalist terrorists in Iraq is also a just war. But what maybe will convince you is when in a couple of years time Iraq emerges as a modern, prosperous democracy. But maybe I am being too optimistic here as you seem to stuck in your all war is always wrong ideology.
I, for one, never said any such thing. I believe this particular was is wrong. .... right after the first sightings of flying pigs.
I agree... in Claire's "just war" thread recently I think most people agreed that there are some instances in which military action is unavoidable or is the least bad option. This particular war was one not fought from necessity and was not the least worst option.
Oh but it was. Iraq could never have been a free country unless we had used military action to oust the evil and extremely cruel regime of Saddam Hussein. The Iraqi people were totally unable to do it themselves, they needed outside help. The Kurds for one were overjoyed to see the downfall of Saddams' regime and so were tens of thousands of freed political prisoners, many who had suffered appalling torture. Whats more we are also winning the new war against the Islamic terrorist insurgents after retaking Fallujah. They are now on the retreat and hopefully will be finally defeated once and for all within a few months.
You're like a broken record. The war had nothing to do with ousting a cruel regime. Do you think that George Bush has spent an estimated $150 BILLION DOLLARS out of altruism? Surely even you can't be quite that naive. The war was about oil. Pure and simple.
