I just thought that as my original question was wether I should join a Buddhist group for meditation, that you were responding because you were a Buddhist maybe. As an explanation of "What I am" Well! I believe that we are all as one with the universe. Along with ever other living and non living thing. We are I believe, like a wave in the ocean, seemingly separate, but intrinsically linked and like a radio receiver, picking up information from the universe. As such, our brains are not storing our memories, they are stored in the zero point field, which is a Quantum Physics term for the "vaccuum" between observable space, which is like the ocean to our wave. Some quantum theorists believe this.
You're telling me about what we all are, what we are like, what our brains are doing, where our memories come from, what that is like, and what some other people believe. But who or what are you, exactly? What I'm walking you through is a very basic zen introduction. Don't worry -- it's time tested. You'll get it. I know you're trying to answer my question. The fact that you haven't done it with all your trying makes it seem to me that you don't know. That might be so. You might not. So, try not trying to answer my question, but try finding out who or what you are and once you are sure you know, you will know how to answer my question. Take some time. Ask yourself who you are and pay attention to the answers and how you get them and where you get them from.
Also, re-read the beginning of the thread. You know that a person doesn't have to be a Buddhist to know something about meditation.
Well thank you!...............I Think lol. (Really though I had it there) I will give it some thought. Do you mean the answers should come to me through meditation? Also interested to know what was the incredible experience you had?
Sorry! I cheated and googled it! It seems that when I have the answer, since it is not an intellectual answer I would not be able to communicate it anyway!
Well, any way you can get the answer is good. Meditation can be all different kinds of things. Sometimes it can be taking a nice walk and thinking things over for a while. Just pay attention to what's going on with this mind of yours. The experience...in 2003, I was in the Army and about to deploy to Iraq. I had no idea about Hinduism at that time. Sri Ganesha appeared to me in a dream and promised me that no one on either side would get hurt so long as I was around. I told a witch friend of mine about the dream, and he told me that the God I'd met was Sri Ganesha. Well, ok. So I went to war believing this. I felt that if somebody got hurt and I wasn't there, it would be my fault. So, I went everywhere I could. And wherever I went, nothing ever happened. No one ever got hurt around me. And I was in some really dangerous situations and places. So, when I had a chance to go to a Hindu temple last year, I went to offer my thanks to Sri Ganesha. That was when I realized I wanted to have a relationship with this God, and I became a Hindu. Everyone's path is different, but this is right for me.
It's absolutely impossible to cheat on this. You can get an answer from the internet and decide to quit the exercise if you want. That's up to you. If you've read about it, you know that coming up with an answer isn't the objective.
Thanks for all your help. I will seriously think about where I go from here. Ideally I would like to find a way to learn the zen meditation, but there doesn't seem to be anywere local to me other than the Buddhist meetings. (But that seems a little different) I might try it anyway! Nothing ventured eh? I am also trying to separate the wheat from the chaff, as it were! I am finding connections between my main interests which are quantum physics, spiritual healing, conspiracy theories and esoteria in general and am looking for ways to explore this further. Unfortunately my friends and family have little interest in these topics. Your dream was very interesting. Do you believe that is was because of your Buddhist teaching that this God came to you in your dream? Had you somehow opened a pathway through meditation do you think?
Man, I have no idea. You try asking a God to explain himself. Please don't believe that I helped you. I did not, at all. I shouldn't even have tried. I apologize, and I hope it doesn't end up having hampered you. But if you want my advice, I say look around, keep an open mind. Don't expect it all to make sense. If useful answers could be derived solely from reason, logic and experience, the math and science faculties of every university would be living lives of incredible peace, goodness and compassion. And don't quit something unless you're sure you have nothing to gain by following whatever path you're on.
I hope you find peace and enlightenment in your life standingseated. I will take your advice and don't worry about hampering me. You haven't I'm sure! It has been nice to have someone to take an interest. You take care now
Zen is the way to go if you want simple & effective practical meditation. All you do is focus on your breath. And sit on your ass. BOOm. your meditating
Hindus consider it to be that, yes. Sidhartha Gautama was a Hindu who believed he had come up with a set of reforms that would enable people to reach the same goal with fewer distractions. I don't know of any other religion that considers extinguishment of the self a goal.
You want some info? What kind of info? Is info the only sort of help you need, or is there other help that you need, too?
