Is it just me or is this forum getting clogged by a bunch of new threads that no one posts to? It seems like some of the "classics" (e.g., "Pictures of Your Feet") are being pushed to the 2nd or 3rd page or even further back. "Pictures of Your Feet" was always somewhere on the first page. Now it's buried on the third page and likely to be forgotten. I've gotten to the point that I skip over many of the new threads. In my opinion, there are too many new ones that are just replications of classic topics buried in the forum. Okay, there aren't anyone rules against creating and recreating multiple threads, but,...

    Others??

On a forum I was a mod at, we'd just condense multiple threads of the same topic into one.

if no one ever posted anythigng new, this place would be pritty boreing. Plus not evey post can be a classic.

  4. It's a PUBLIC forum.
    Not for your personal convenience.
It's difficult sorting through all the threads on all the pages.
I'm certain all the threads I've introduced were started by somebody at some other time.
This site is terriffic because new people are always appearing or others reappear to add their ideas, stories, and points of view.
Besides, MY take on going barefoot is not YOUR take on it.
The topics are old, indeed, but each one of us experiences them anew.
    THAT keeps it all fresh.

Frankly I wouldn't really care if "Pictures of your feet" got pushed to the last page, because mostly I don't care about that. Just my personal opinion, eh.

Maybe we have arrived at a point where everything there is to say about barefooting has already been said.

  7. As I said, it has been said by others.
Everytime time YOU experience it, it's new.
That's the wonder of being barefoot!

Perhaps we would be then be best served by having the system randomly top post old threads. In this way, the whole thing would be automated, that which is old would be new and no one could post anything so there could be no arguments.:cheers2:

Before posting a new thread I've always thought about whether it had any merit as far as thought-provoking qualities that might stimulate others to join in. That doesn't mean it has to be intellectual, just something that others might care about or have some insight. Sometimes I guess right, sometimes I'm a bit off the mark. To me, multiple posts regarding casual observations/feelings/opinions to which few if anyone contributes just dilutes the content of the forum.

That type of thing really doesn't bother me. For the most part, in all of life, all that can be said has been said. Every time someone experiences it, though, new thoughts and opinions on the matter surface. Every time someone speaks of it, a new conversation is created. If it's the same people rehashing the same things in each thread, that's a bit superfluous. But every time someone has an experience, other people have probably had it. That doesn't mean, though, that they don't want to share it.

I can see your point, StraightToes, but there seems to be a choice. Either everyone trawls through all the old posts to check if there's already a thread for something they want to say, or an individual who already knows about a particular thread just goes straight for that thread, digs it up and bumps it when they want to reignite it. It's a lot less work for everyone to go with the latter option. It might help if we had a mod scouting for duplicate topics and merging them of course though. I'm not too bothered if the same topics come up in different threads, because for me, it's often more about talking to new people and sharing the same things with them, that we've shared before with others so that they get to know things that have helped us. I also think keeping threads fresh is handy. Long threads can be intimidating to new posters who don't quite get how to jump in, especially if they've heavily digressed. Threads that just grow and grow are difficult to keep up with if you don't visit the forum every day. Shorter threads you can just dip in and out of, adding things when then occur to you. I think it's good that the pictures thread has had a recent restart. It's nice for people to be able to catch a thread near the beginning. The older one's still there for anyone who wants to look up previously posted pictures, meanwhile.

So, basically, what you're saying is that you intend to go on creating thread after thread after repeat thread?
