I was homeless at one point, but never did I beg for money on the streets, or just sit and rot under a bridge, as some homeless people seem so fond of doing. I got myself into a shelter, and took it from there. I agree that there is no excuse for people who just sit on the sidewalk all day and beg for change. The thing that makes me angry about these people is not the choices they made to get themselves there, but the choices they're currently making to keep themselves in the rut they're in. For example, if you try to give a homeless person food, who is asking for money to buy food, they will not accept it. Because they don't really want food, they want drugs.
Yea I agree. I was downtown one day last year and saw a guy sitting outside who was in a REALLY bad way. I was hungry so my brother and I went into a McDonalds to get food and I bought the guy a Big Mac. I went outside and handed it to him and said "no, no I'm okay. Do you have any change though? Anything helps." I though, "no, you're not 'okay' and if anything helps, take the goddamn hamburger I bought you." He didn't want it. Most likely because the greasy food would kill his buzz. He was pretty blizted.
He didn't change his tune. He just articulated his point a little more. Better? I'm not quite sure. He was talking about specific people that were on the streets.
I did not read most of this thread. However I used to look down on the homeless too back when I was a teenager.I thought they were losers, bums etc. you name it.----Then I suddenly realized, as mentioned ,most homeless are mentally ill .After all NO one(well most people anyway) is that lazy that they would choose to be homeless. With proper treatment alot of these people would not have to be homeless. Why this is allowed to happen in the so-called richest country in the world is beyond me.We have extremes where some people own 10 mansions, and others are homeless--absurd.
I didn't read the last ten pages of this thread, but it's a really interesting thread. I hate to say it, but in some ways I agree with the OP, on a much more tolerant level I suppose. Food and clothing are one thing, but money is entirely different. I know that (at least in my city) there are MANY (one story said something to the lines of 60% of people begging on the streets) people out there that aren't homeless, that are just down on their luck and not making as much as they are used to, so they resort to begging, because in the right spots it can be quite lucrative. I'll always stop and talk to the homeless, give them leftovers, or a scarf or something, but money is something you can't trust people with.
We don't have many homeless; but every few years a homeless guy will be discovered in the middle of winter in some alley dead from exposure; a virtual bumsickle hotwater
They freeze to death in -10 F weather What better description can you come up with :toetap05: hotwater
homelessness happens. they're not all the same, they're not all in that situation for the same reason. when i was really little my family was homeless. my mom was not a deadbeat. just because you had options available to you and were able to tough up and avoid homelesness doesn't mean everybody else can.
After having read every post in this thread.... I think Lunar just wants everyone to praise him for his awesomeness of being a 20 year old kid that 'survived the streets' . :hurray: Yay for you. I think he's blowing shit out of his mouth 'cause his ass knows better. So, get the hell over yourself you immature punk. Until you've walked a mile in a homeless persons shoes (and, no, I don't think you HAVE) don't judge. You have a lot of growing up to do and a lot of maturing to do. You're like one of those parasites....someone that is trying to sound intellectual and opinionated, then when someone reams your ass with the facts, you fall apart. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you get squashed like a bug. And, if by some weird chance in the universe you really WERE homeless, it WAS luck that got you out. You already admitted you didn't earn all of the money yourself....please, what else did you lie about? You didn't and you still don't. There isn't always a way out. There are too many assholes like you out there willing to down a homeless person simply because they're homeless. And, in A LOT of cases, circumstances are the only things to blame. I'm sure personal drive didn't get a lot of todays America laid off from their jobs, I'm sure motivation didn't either....all the drive and motivation in the world isn't going to stop the downfall of this economy. If all you wanted was praise, you shoulda just said that in the beginning....then you wouldn't have looked like THAT big of an asshole.
lol, he said he was homeless? as someone who spent 5 out of 7 years homeless i find it hard to believe anyone who was homeless for any extended time would post such drivel as the op of this thread.. what was he homeless for 48 hours??lol
