i noticed amy saying that she wished hers were more "bendy" and i am wondering about how thickness and maturity effect the flexibility of locks. i read one account describing someone's locks like "nerf darts" that wouldn't bend. i don't like the thought of this.

For me it depends on the dread. My front ones that held the backcombing the best are not bendy. I posted a pic awhile back in my update thread of me holding the front dread by the base and it sticking straight up off my head. But the ones in the back are floppy and soft.

    Going on six weeks,
    Feels like normal hair.
My brother, dreads for over two years,
Has never let me feel his.

    Really.

    It's sad.

mine are too short to comment on any of it yet, wonder if conditioning once after they're good and mature would make any difference...

Oh, just saw this thread. I'm guessing that the first portion of hair that you choose to dread, regarless of length (unless you are starting with really short hair maybe) is the portion that will become the hardest, because a greater amount of hair is tightening and shortening over a much greater distance than any of the future growth will be.
E.g. in some places I've got about 12 inches of hair compressed into about 5 inches - this is the original backcombed hair and literally feels like it's full of rocks (no it's not wax, it's HAIR, I have CHECKED lol). My new growth is more like 4.5 inches compressed into 4 inches, is soft and flexible, and when it's long enough it might stop my dreads from being flappy sticks :p

only the super thin ones of mine have really any bend. All of them are around 8 inches and if I pinch my dread above the root they still stick straight out.

Mine are bendy and flexible, but most of them are pretty skinny...

My dreads are totally flexible. We made a date to go to the movies on Tuesday, but I couldn't do it, so I was like 'hey dreads, can we go on Thursday instead?' And my dreads were like 'sure dude.'
