Too often the reason they are offended is because they'd rather not think.

    Lawsuits are mounting for Bruno.

The guy portrayed as a terrorist when Bruno was trying to get kidnapped to become famous, was blindsided like all his victims in these mockumentaries.

Seems Ayman Abu Aita, the very mustachiod, Arabic-looking "terrorist" is actually just a 39-year-old father of four and is involved with the pro-Western Fatah Party. While he did serve time in Israel prison for involvement in the Palestinian uprising years ago, he now has a business in Bethlehem and works with Holy Land Trust a non-violent charity.

He now feels maligned and is going to sue to clear his reputation.

I don't blame him. Looks like a good libel suit here because he was definitiely set up to look like a terrorist. Apparently there are parts of the interview edited out that presents a whole different picture.

Very true, this is why Sacha Baron Cohen is not just a clown but a genuine satirist, I think Bruno is even better at getting to the heart of the prejudice and stupidity he is exposing than the Borat film was.

Nice review Shale, here's one I wrote for Peace Phoenix's political blog: http://thethirdestate.net/2009/07/review-bruno/

    Win.
Actually, I get suspicious of the people who find it offensive - what prejudice of theirs did he uncover? =P

I was disappointed. It had all the shock value but it could of been a little more clever.

This movie was retarded compared to Borat. The best part of the movie for me was the preview for the new Trailer Park Boys movie coming out.

I really had high hopes for this movie when I went to the theater and paid the $10. It definitely made me laugh the entire time. Knowing German, I mostly laughed at the made-up German, homosexual lingo he used aside from the more subtle comedy - including the Hummus/Pyramid discussion. Sacha Baron Cohen's wit, timing, performance and flexibility was exceptional, actually. To think the skits were mostly improv, with real, unsuspecting people, and he stayed in such great character and was on top of his toes the entire time to make the moment hilarious shows how great he can be.

I don't even know if I liked it. I thought I hated it and like Borat a lot better. But then reading wikipedia, I hear its real people they talk to who are unaware of the film and end up suing Cohen and the producers. Borat got sued by 50 different people from Borat since no one signed any release forms and if they did they were lied to. Like in Borat, when he's taking his driving lessons, the drivers ed coach sued because he was told that they were making a documentary about learning to drive in America. The coach was surprised to find himself on the big screen. I know its supposed to look real but I always thought it was staged until wikipedia said otherwise. I now say I like Bruno a lot more after finding out it is real. But still won't watch it again.

For me, it wasn't close to being as funny as Borat. It lacked the general wit and cleverness that the other movie had. It also seemed to be even more offensively in-your-face than Borat was, which is saying a lot. However, it had it's hilarious moments, for sure.
