The Gay Parade by of Montreal is the shit, psychedelic in the vein of Sgt. Peppers, but even better.

I'd never heard Boards of Canada until reading about it on this thread - all right!

No music coming up and peaking, then Grateful Dead, especially American Beauty - nothing mysto, just pure mind & heart.

And speaking of mind, Liquid Acrobat as Regards the Air by Incredible String Band.

Some of those old groups, and I'm sure newer ones too, really took a lot of care with their listener's minds. It's not nothing to create music for tripping.

It might seem a strange choice, but I like Counting Crow's August and Everything After.

It's got it's fair share of downers-- in fact, almost every song is about alienation or loss or quiet moments pondering the meaning of life and why she did that to me or why I had to leave her-- but the over-all feeling is very grounded and earthy. It feels strong and wise and full of love.

And that accordion next to the hammond organ over the simple guitar...it carries me away.
