Ashcroft was just a puppet for the Bush Administration and the neocons. I don't think he had much, if any, say in his actions -- rather he was coerced into them. He probably began to realize what is going on, and decided to bolt. The same can be said for the other people in his cabinet who are departing.

You have to wonder why all these people are resigning.

But, you can be sure he will be replaced with another puppet who is just as bad -- if not worse -- than Ashcroft.

The police state is going to progress, regardless if puppets like Ashcroft remain or not. There is nothing to celebrate over.

Part of me thinks he will be back--as Rehnquist's replacement on the Supreme Court!

It's been suggested Justice Clarence Thomas may replace Chief Justice Rehnquist. The advantage for Pres. Bush, he already has an voting track record for Justice Thomas.

My first thought was...wellll I'llll be!! Maybe the guy that couldn't beat the dead man, actually has enough sense to see when things are going not so well and is bolting while he has a chance. lolol

From what I understand, it's not all that unusual for several cabinet members from the first administration to leave prior to the beginning of the second administration. I don't think any of Pres. Nixon's cabinet made the trasition, including the Vice Pres. Agnew (he resigned and I think did a little of Jail time). There was some new faces during Pres. Reagan and Clinton transition between first and second administration.
