Spens,first I'd like to say good luck.Second some people here are addicts some are not,people who take opiates for legit reason's for-cancer,nerve damage,and terminal illness. Yes if there on meds for a number of years and you take there pills away from them what do you expect to happen? That does not mean there addicts.Like I said good luck dude but don't try to preach.

Blind leading the blind? My father drank and shot cocaine for thirty years and had it not been for the people in NA he would probably be dead. I assume you went to a couple of meetings or knew someone that went to a couple and continued to use? Willpower does not exist for full blown junkies, I am one so I can speak for most of us. I tried NA and AA and nothing worked for me. I had my best friend die in my arms after overdosing and that could not get me sober. I know people that tried to clean up for years but were unsuccessful until they started the NA program. I will admit that it is a little cliche but if it works, go for it. A lot of the people on these forums say that meetings are for the weak-at-heart, etc. but most that say that are jealous that they cannot clean up, that they have to keep on shooting dope and living an existence, not a life. (I am by no means talking about anyone in particular). But before you say that shit is for people with a lack of will power, try taking some fucking ex-lax and see if your will-power can keep you from taking a shit... Sorry to rant but the NA program is one thing I feel strongly about. Even if it is not your cup of tea do not run it down just because of shit you heard. Later, d00ds.

Spen its our choice to do the drugs we choose honestly in my opinion besides the physical dependencies of opiates it is the safest drug longterm for anyone to do. There is no proven brain damage like meth or crack can cause and no short term memory loss or depression like weed and alchohol can cause so fuck you and let us do our drug and go judge another drug forum that actually might think the things that you post make since.

I like Dr. Drew's opinion on opiates. He doesn't demonize the drug by saying that it's all about the behavior involving the drug. For a cancer patient, opiates are a godsend, for someone who's hopelessly hooked, spending all their money and stuck in the love/hate relationship with it, it's a bad thing. There are also 2 forms of addiction, the physical dependence, which anyone who uses opiates will develop, even if used for legitimate pain, then there's the psychological dependence, which we experience as cravings and the urge to get high just to feel either normal or better than normal or even go on a nod.

I got my start back when I was 23, an old friend of mine used to give me vic 750's by the handful cuz of my headaches and I took them sparingly since I feared addiction. Almost 10 years later, I can stay clean from them for a month or 2, but go back to them because I like how they feel,...the energy burst, the abolition of the lonliness and misery I feel. I must admit, I crave a lot less when my bipolar condition is well controlled. Maybe we're not so much addicts as self medicators. But what we use to medicate is so addictive. I've always been under the impression since I was even a kid that if something's addictive, it must feel really good!

Until someone's truly ready or faces serious consequences, they're just not going to stop..bottom line.
