('Cuz i'm not the ONLY one, mang. Advertise FREE SPEECH, and YOU deal with whatEVER the cat drags in...) Yeah, my relationship with this site is definitely one of Love/Hate ~ i love it so much, that i hate what i see as unfairness, and being a Libra? i wouldn't argrue with me about right and wrong...
The 12 step program actually came out of Bill W.s experience in psychedelics particularly LSD. He came to the realization that a higher power (be it whatever floats your boat) "God" if you will for lack of better terms can give you the strength and fortitude to resist the seduction of alcohol (and drugs or whatever your addicted to) because obviously he couldn't do it on his own. I was in rehab for 30 days for crack addiction. I relapsed a couple times right after but never since. For some in rehab God was the sky..the universe...a tree...you get the idea. Because they couldn't do it themselves. I do drink a few beers :cheers2: now and then, smoke weed regularly (but have quit for a few weeks now just to clear my head) and acid and shrooms when she visits me. But not crack. So I'm not a good example of AA recovery. As far as being an athiest...I don't "know" that god exists, but I prefer to follow a french philosopher's advice. His name was Pascal. He believed that it's better to believe in God and enjoy the possibility of his promise and be wrong, than to not believe in God...and be wrong.
I always thought a sort of variant of that when I was kid, when I had a more traditional view of God and heaven/Hell. I thought, "Well why wouldn't somebody just to believe to be safe, If you die and you're wrong, you're screwed". Lmao
What have you got to lose in believing? I mean in a purest sense Jesus said believe in me and you shall have eternal life. He doesn't say if you sin afterwards you will lose that gift. In fact he says no one can take away that gift. Not even you. Of course he does look at the heart of your belief not just words. so if you go out intentionally sinning after you accept his word, then obviously you were not sincere and honest. So you never were really "saved"... Jesus summed up the whole bible and his teachings like this: 25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 26"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" 27He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[c]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[d]" 28"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live." 29But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" 30In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35The next day he took out two silver coins[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' 36"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" 37The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise." Luke 10 25-37 And this one, (it's 420) 1 John 4:20 If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. It's the traditional churchy view and doctrine that says you must not sin again or you ill go to hell. I'm not a fan of organized church type religion but I believe what Jesus said. But I believe what buddha says as well. Because it pretty much doesn't contradict.
Not "IN" Austin, but just a couple of three hours down the road! ********* For those of y'all saying "Schitzophrenia," Am i going to have to change the spelling of my name??? phrenhitza No likeee.
Lmao yer Awesome Nice stories you posted. I liked em. Yeah, half heartedly living by the scripture doesn't really work in anyones favor. Same applies to any belief one may take up. I always looked upon the bible in the metaphorical sense.. Seems everything is more realistic in that manner.
