I didn't really experience the eighties. I don't remember anything before 1989. From what I'm told, the eighties were pretty lame compared to the seventies anyway. I do rememer the nineties, and watching news of the gulf war, but some of the worst music to ever exist came from that era. I think this is mainly the reason things star ted going downhill. I blame the whole thing on urban hip-hop's/rap's formation. They ruined everything. It just started getting more and more violent, and people were stupid enough to listen to it.

 

i think a worse turn was the grunge movement which changed punk and rock perhaps forever.

Yeah, grunge too. Just as much blame should be put on our whiney and/or violent generation than on the music. Afterall, they're the idiots who're buying that stuff. Atleast grunge is dead now. Rap probably won't ever die. I thought it was a trend, but apparently it's a culture. It's pretty sad when white kids are bitching about oppression, and not being able to get a loan, "It's the man tryin' to hold me down, dogg". It was bad enough when black dudes said that. Maybe if you had any form of credit whatsoever you'd be able to get a loan! I hate my generation, I hate them so very much. Well, with the exception of you guys, don't get me wrong. The majority are braindead morons. Atleast in the sixties and the seventies people appreciated strong musical talent, and in the eighties people really appreciated strong technical prowess on a guitar. Some of those eighties metal rockers were classically trained, guys like Jake E. Lee, Randy Rhoads and Alex Skolnick. No one appreciates talent anymore. They want to hear a guy rap about his baby's mamma, or hear some suburban white kid scream about his ex-girlfriends.

 

Well, Musicman, I wouldn't worry too much... hopefully soon there will be some more real talent... It says something when 'oldies' cds sell better than current music among the younger generation.

I didn't know that was the case. I don't see much classics being played on T.V., or hear anyone talking about it. When you say the Doors or Cheap Trick to younger kids, usually they don't know who you're talking about. When I lived in California from 1998-2001 it was much more apparent that rock was coming back with the younger generation, though.

 

I wish i could have gone back in time jsut so that all the ideas of freedom and stuff was exciting. i mean, nothing is new anymore.
