So, I was at sunfest this weekend in my town (a multicultural festival featuring food, various vendors and many musical acts from all over the world), and at a global awareness booth, a local rap artist (Testament) who was trying to get his music out was selling a compliation he made of his own songs and other rap artists' music that all had a theme of different ethical concerns. His music wasn't too bad, some of the other songs were very good imo though. But yea, anyone listen to rap that has more of a environmental or poverty or any social issue theme to it? I'm kinda interested in that, cause it's cool to see how a music genre that's generally perceived to be shallow and superficial, can also have deep and important meaning in it as well. Some of the other artists on the cd were : Dead Prez, Euphrates, Ill Bill, Immortal Technique, Invincible, The Knoitalls, Lump Sum, Lupe Fiasco, Papoose & Busy Signal, People's Poets, Sabac Red, The Truth and War Party I'm not a big listener of rap or hip hop...so I'm kinda wondering on the opinions of those who do of this "ethical rap" genre...
yup. i mentioned this other day on a thread.. there's some great music out there with great messages.
You mean political ideology, I think. But yeah Sabac is genius, Immortal Technique is pretty good, too.
The Coup is my favorite rap group / artist and they're very political. Their views are diametrically opposed to mine too , but I still appreciate their message.
