Very good for cooking a piece of silverside in .Also good for making real chicken stock.Stock cubes/booster are no where near as good. Also good for cooking most pulses.
Split peas, lentils etc. These benefit by being soaked.Warning though BOIL RED KIDNEY BEANS FOR 10 MINUTES FIRST ON THE STOVE BEFORE SIMMERING IN A CROCK POT.

2-3 pounds boneless chuck, cut into 1 inch cubes
    1/2 cup flour
    1/4 cup butter
    1 onion, sliced
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/8 teaspoon pepper
    1 clove garlic, minced
    2 cups beer
    1/4 cup flour
Coat beef cubes with the 1/2 cup flour. Brown in melted butter. Drain off excess fat. In crock pot, combine browned meat with onion, salt, pepper, garlic and beer. Cover and cook on low 5-7 hours (all day) until meat is tender. Turn control to high. Dissolve remaining 1/4 cup flour in small amount of water. Stir into meat mixture, cook on high 30-40 minutes. Serve with rice and salad.

no reall recipe here, just something I throw together. think its called chili verde

    about 1lb cubed pork
    5 tomotilas diced
    1 onion
    4 garlic cloves
    5-6 jalepnio pepper diced
    1 green pepper cubed
    1-2 grated potato (raw)
    1 tomato cubed

    ad the spices to taste
    salt
    cumin
    majoram
    cilantro
    paprika

Fry up the pork first, then toss the pork and every thing else into a slow cooker. then add water so that its just to level with everything else. and just let it simmer for an hour or two.

How many grated potatoes you use will determin how thick it winds up. I like it about the same consistancy as tomato sauce, then I'll usually put it on rice.

I make roasts in the crock pot all the time. It's super easy. Here's how I do it:
Pour 1 cup of brewed coffee, 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce, 1 tbsp of worchestershire sauce, 1 tsp of hot sauce into your crock pot and mix well. Place your roast in the liquid (this works with beef or pork) and cook on low all day (about 8 hours). It turns out tender and the juices can be used to make a tasty gravy.
    I love my crock pot!

    Pork & Veggie Stew

1.5 lbs pork - cut into bite sized cubes
1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 can condensed cream of celery soup
    2 C baby carrots
5 medium/smallish potatoes- cut into cubes
3 stalks of celery - sliced
    1 medium onion - sliced
2 C small mushrooms - cut into bite sized pieces
1 C peas (fresh or frozen)
    2 tsp poultry seasoning
    1 tsp garlic powder
    salt & pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in crock pot. Cook on low 10 hours.

Have left over veggies or rice or pasta? Add it during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

Short on time in the morning? Cut up everything the night before then just add it to the crock pot in the morning.

Still short on time... replace fresh veggies with canned or frozen large cut mixed veggies.
