I was watching a Canadian news program tonight and was pleased by what was on. On the show was a famous Canadian scientist named Bob MacDonald. Some people from across Canada wrote in to have their questions answered by Bob. Here are two them, two of nature’s most interesting mysteries: How do spiders known how to build such an intricate, geometrical web From birth, it is instinct and built into their DNA. That’s all is known about it. The Universe does not just ‘float’ or ‘be’. It is moving at a very rapid speed through a great ‘void’. It has been discovered that the Universe is apparently growing in size. Makes sense I suppose. Everything inside it may multiply and grow much in the same way our human cells do so. Like for example the growth of a tumor. It has also been discovered that the speed at which the universe is travelling is increasing. It continues to increase in speed and will do so until it eventually and inevitably creates a ‘rip’, at which point no one knows what will, or is going to happen to it. The speed at which we, others, planets, stars, and everything else inside it does not increase compared to everything else inside it. However, compared to whatever is beyond or outside it, or in the ‘void’ , our speed will increase. For example, when you’re riding in a vehicle, it doesn’t really feels like your moving compared to everything else inside the vehicle. But compared to everything else outside the vehicle you are moving at the same speed as the vehicle.
Oh come on?! Doesn't anyone on here care about science...or science that doesn't involve pot or backcombing?
neither is really a mystery. genetic memory just involves some hardwiring of memory, and entropy\universal expansion isn't that mysterious either, it just happens.
how is there a "something" outside of the universe? a void let's say. well what is a void? how can the universe move within a void? isn't that still some type of container? what? haha
yes it does. But why does it 'just happen' is really the question that needs an answer. Also genetic memory. But where would the spider obtain this from. Say a baby spider. It isn't taught how to do so.
Yes it is. Some sort, no one knows. Here's a cooler question for you. Is it bigger than any human could ever fathom, or is it the size of an atom???
Yeah dude. Much more interesting mysteries are that of consciousness, and dark matter, or the Baigong pipes. To name a few.
i don't that's a cooler question. i don't mean this in a mean way. i don't understand what you're asking. the size of a void or the universe?
it's genetic code. that's where it comes from. spiders that don't know how die, spiders that do, live, it's a slightly more complicated version of breathing, or migrating. and, some things DO just happen, when you drop an apple, it does just fall, gravity just works the universe just expands because that's what it does, nature abhors a vacuum, it's one of those things that is, like gravity. it doesn't need answers. it's not a mystery, any more than bees flying.
Yes I agree. These two however were the last two I caught in the last 20 minutes of the show. There were more but I wasn't by my television.
They don't seem like very big mysteries to me. The spider thing is no more mysterious than any other animal that does things based on instinct, to me at least. And about the universe expanding and creating a rip, what's that based on? Why would a rip occur, isn't that saying space isn't infinite, we can only see as far as light permits us, and that's like 13 billion light years away from the earth, I don't understand why a rip would occur if things keep traveling outwards.
Perhaps to you, those are more fascinating mysteries, but i don't expect that Lunar was able to put in an "order" for just certain, INTERESTING stuff.
Neither do I. I was just sharing what I heard to see what others thought of it. I get what Dave was saying. That makes sense, it's no different than humans breating, it happens without us having to 'do it'. The rip thing, I dunno. I guess the speed would cause some sort of rip. Although it would need friction to do that. And what would cause this friction agaisnt the universe? I dunno
.... you also could see it in a way that everything around you moves - be it a racing void, a whirling galaxy, a weightless butterfly staggering through the air, or thoughts speeding by one million per second (or 10 new posts on this topic while I'm hatching a reply) - - where the center is stillness. It does not really matter how big, small, fast, slow ... the great mystery is not to be explained (or measured) (I think).
Yes thats why I stated that in my OP. Everything is moving around everything. At the same time everything is moving all at once (with each other) within the universe. Thats why I used the analogy of a moving vehicle.
