So many people on the board are at different points on a journey through folk/roots/acoustic music. I'm opening this as a recommendation thread. I produce concerts at a folk venue in Denver, Swallow Hill Music Association. I get to see/hear a lot of music in a year. I've been stuck on Dan Navarro (not Dave, his cousin Dan) and Eric Lowen for many years, but I've been playing them almost exclusively at home. see www.lownav.com and search myspace for them. Fave song of the minute: Pendulum. Also, David Roth played the venue and was absolutely amazing. www.davidrothmusic.com funny, wrote a song in the dressing room and opened the show with it, clear and a rather impressive player, too. Ok, the typing stick is in your hands. Who do you recommend?
Come, on, no folkies have opinions? New rec: Ember two Welsh women with ethereal voices. Touring the US right now.
I too am a BIG Indie Artist supporter. My all time Favorite is, Brett Ryan Stewart out of Nashville, TN. You can check out his music at: http://www.myspace.com/brettstewart ENJOY... ~Sandy~
Everyone listen to Phil Ochs, a protest singer from the 60s who hanged himself in 1976. One of the few people who didn't despite Dylan after going electric. Much of his music is dated because of its subject-matter, but his songs and style are timeless.
