I heard that Carlin may have plagiarized some of his late 80's early 90's material from Hick's.

    Their both awesome

In your opinion. In MY opinion, Hicks was much funnier than Carlin, although both make me think a lot. Carlin seemed a lot more nihilistic and pessimistic later in life.

Rest in peace Bill Hicks! He wasnt just a comedian, he was a rational mind cracked open to see the world in the way everyone should see it. Sure he puts a hilarious twist on his work, but if you took away the comedy, youd be left with incredible incite.

"If the united states took all the money spent on weapons and the military for one year and spent that money on feeding and clothing the world, we could do that 2 times over."

Bill Hicks was also one of my favourite comedians, but I don't know why you're talking about him in a libertarian forum, the guy was a massive socialist!

"If you like Bill Hicks you have to check out Doug Stanhope"

You got that right. Doug Stanhope is my favorite these days, and I saw him last time he passed through my home town. I don't necessarily agree with all of the views he presents (and he probably doesn't either at times) but he is very thought-provoking at worst, and the funniest man alive at his best. My father was a big believer in at least considering every viewpoint, no matter how crazy it sounds- at least examine it logically and see if there's anything useful to be learned there.

When I saw Stanhope, there was a guy in the audience with terminal cancer. Stanhope made jokes about it, but in a way that was somehow respectful, almost reverent, even. It went something like this:

You really are dying of cancer? Fuck it man, I'm canceling my next show, we're getting some ecstasy, and you and me, we're gonna roll... no, hey, waitress... yes... I want as many cans of whipped cream as you can find up on stage. Hey cancer guy, ever done nitrous oxide? What's the worst it can do, kill ya? Well step up here. Okay, you're gonna hold it like this, press here and inhale... Like this...

Stanhope invited him to say anything he wanted, and even went into the audience and sat down to listen, feet on the table, kicked back. It really was funny yet done with real compassion. Afterwards, I heard, Stanhope and "the cancer guy" were seen hanging out at the bar next door, and the cancer guy had the whole bar chanting the man's name (I forget his first name now...).

The only thing I don't like about Stanhope is that he not only advocates smokers' rights (which is fine by me, I tend to vote that way myself though a nonsmoker), but actually encourages smoking, and I think that's going a bit far with it. I can understad advocating crack smoking, having unprotected sex, driving drunk, or shooting coke and heroin, as those behaviors are really not all that dangerous compared with smoking cigarettes. But he is an entertainer, and I like my comics totally batshit crazy.

I'm drifting offtopic. Stanhope is the "must see" living comic of this era, in my opinion.
