well, compared to the other networks at least... i don't know; i only saw it for 5 minutes, and i'll admit they didn't mention him during that time frame.
I dunno. I do know they are speaking about giving custody of Jaksons kids to Jacksons mom and dad. Jackson said he woke up in the middle night throwing up because of the beatings his dad used to give him. Way to go California.
His dad was a total asshole. I'm glad he didn't get a penny in the will. No surprise there. I'd like to see a crackdown come out of this on doctors who practice what I call medical prostitution for the rich. It has gotten out of control. You buy a doctor, you get a prescription for whatever you want, no questions asked. The DEA is now involved in the investigation. Criminal charges may be filed against one of MJ's doctors. This thing is starting to look more like a real news story again and not just a pop culture orgasm.
MJ's memorial service is being projected by CNN to be the biggest TV event of the year, with more than a billion people watching worldwide. Bigger than the TV audience for Obama's inauguration. And some estimates show more mourners already in LA than the total number who showed up for JFK's funeral procession. For me, those are sufficient reasons not to watch it. Good god, people! He was just an entertainer. A very talented one, but not somebody who changed anything real or important in the world. :toetap05: Reality check!
This is why I only watch a few shows online. I don't pay for cable, & I don't have a television constantly prattling on with advertising in my home. I realize there are news programs and shows on television... It is all on there to serve one purpose, advertising. Television constantly tells you that you are not good enough, hot enough, strong enough, your house isn't clean enough... You aren't and can't get enough of anything... But, if you just get this product for $19.99, or go to this company for hairplugs... Block out the actual images and listen to the messages. TV is a neverending thrum telling you how discontent you are in order to sell, sell, sell. I have been spared most of this Michael Jackson silliness, except for what I hear from other ppl. As for TV, you have the power to turn it off. :cheers2:
Finally, it's over. I turned on the sound for the actual service. I'm glad I did it that way. I had a better attitude toward the whole thing because I didn't have to endure all the preliminary bullshit comments by the network talking heads. This past week's coverage has been an example of TV at its worst. The memorial service was an example of TV at its best; when they turn the cameras on a live, real-world event and shut the hell up about telling us what to think about it. The service was beautiful, the music was great, and the comments by those who knew Michael personally were quite moving and real. The whole thing was much better than I expected. And Michael's daughter Paris probably just got herself into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the youngest person to ever speak to a billion people. Unforgettable.
i watched the memorial from work. it was very tastefully done. I think my heart broke when I heard Paris at the end
micheal jacksons death was timed perfectly to take away from other impending crisis' you know that stand up dave chappelle does about his theory as to why he was accused of child molestation?! I think it applies here...just sayin'
Well, i got up at 3am to watch the service this mroning, so I must be a fan after all. Must say, memorial service was well done
I heard the same rather dubious report I can almost picture his former best friend Uri Geller performing a séance in front of a live studio audience Hotwater
To me, it was a beautiful memorial. No leeches trying to make a buck out of a dead man, just people who genuinely gave a damn about MJ. Saucey.
Isn't she adorable? That was a very raw, human, and honest moment. She made me more inclined to give MJ the benefit of the doubt. Contrast her reaction to the things that MJ said about his father over the years. I agree. She turned me to jello. Janet was scheduled to speak then, but gladly gave up her time to Paris. That was a good move on so many levels. Janet has her act together. I think she will be a good aunt to that little girl. I hope so. I was also pleasantly surprised by the words of Al Sharpton. I can remember years ago when he never, ever said anything that I agreed with. He has aged well and learned many lessons along the way. Maybe I've changed more than he has. I thought his best line was when he looked at Michael's children and said something like, "Your daddy wasn't strange. What he had to live with was strange." You rarely hear that kind of blunt, insightful honesty from a white preacher.
