Well I'm at 9.5 months and the back of my head is dreaded up pretty nice...For some reason the rest of my head looks like I'm at about a month or two in. They still are sectioned off, but are pretty loose - almost like normal hair...is this normal? Should I try some sea salt spray to move things along?

I'd be willing to bet that you sleep on your back....

Yeah, I do...I have a back problem, so it's easiest to sleep on my back...but, I can sleep on my sides, too, now that I've gotten some strength back.

I think backcombed dreads look their worse between months 8 - 16. Then everything seems fine and dandy

Oh yeah? I've never heard that...I know they're still pretty young at 9.5 months, right? ...I guess I'll try a couple things - sleeping on my side, maybe wearing a hat more often and see where I get...maybe get some sea salt spray.

Nah. Just wait it out. They are still young as you said

glad I didn't backcomb then, thats when your expecting them to look decent. my locks are so much tighter at the back and I've lost a lot of wispys. Around the sides they've barely shrunk and are a lot longer. Think it's cuz I twiddle them a bit. But I sleep on my side

    that explains it...

I sleep on my side and the ones on the sides are locked up the best. They'll all lock up, it just takes time. Wearing a wool hat to bed could help speed up the process a bit.

Opposite with me. The hair on the side I sleep on isn't as dready as my other side or back.

I sleep on my stomach, face on the pillow and hair above...and my un-backcombed back (eh, got lazy) is knotting up and getting much tighter than the front and sides that I backcombed. This is probably useless information, just sharing =]

Well, four weeks in and my nicely backcombed sections now feel like normal flowy hair. Hurrah. I had this little girl come up to me today (I knew her) and go 'EWWWWWWWW your hair is freaking me out!' and then she proceeded to cry because we went to the mall and I got soap and she got nothing.

Gladly. :) Nah pisses me off. One side of my head has pretty cool dreads the other, the side I sleep on, are just limp and full of loops.

yeah, the ones one the sides are locking up a lot faster than the ones on the top.... none on the back but I don't sleep on my back anyways.

loops aren't a bad thing, they'll eventually get sucked back in, and make your dread stronger.
