Lately Ive been listening to the Beatles nonstop. I love everything they've ever put out. But their first albums, from the suit and tie era, sounded all the same. I liked it, but everything was just too "twin". But Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, THE WHITE ALBUM, ect. were all different and all great. I wouldn't ever turn anyone away from them. But since I put this in the psychedelic forum, which one do you guys think is more trippy, Sgt. Peppers or Magical Mystery Tour?

Me? Mystery Tour is extremely insane. :biggrinjester:

Magical Mystery probably has trippier songs but overall I'd say Sgt. Pepper's, especially considering the context in which it was released.

I don't think the songs are trippy at all.

However, I think Sgt. Pepper is better as an entire collective album. I like the songs better on MMT though.

It's psychedelic pop, I think a good percentage of my music library is more "psychedelic" or "trippy" than The Beatles, but I don't think any able defines psych pop more accurately than Sgt. Peppers. The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society or The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow are also great examples. Pure psychedelia is things more like Can, Amon Duul II, Hawkwind, early Pink Floyd, early Grateful Dead, early Soft Machine.

Those are the two of the greatest albums of all time. I couldn't possibly choose which is better.

Sgt Pepper was a milestone when it was released, and the pinnacle of The Beatles' career. A few months later Brian Epstein died, and the Beatles lost their edge. The first thing they did was the Magical Mystery Tour film, which was all over the place. The songs were good, the double 7" EP was good. The album wasn't even a real album, just the single EP padded out with some extra tracks (the LP wasn't even released in Britain until 1976)

So, I'd say overall that Magical Mystery Tour is better now. But Sgt Pepper was better then.

Magical mystery has more connections between another songs I think... sgt pepper is just a collection of different songs... Still I like sgt pepper, but magical mystery wins this battle...

Sgt. pepper's was considered they're first real break away form what you call the "twin" era, or what George martin calls the "Bubblegum" era, they released this album after they stopped touring in 1965. they were the only band that stopped touring and still had a really successful career, such as the most number ones in the world even 48 years later.

    Wow...that's sorta difficult...
I would say that both albums contain the Beatles' most psychedelic songs, real masterpieces...so that's what makes that question a little bit too complicated.
Lately, I've been having an obsession for MMT...so I guess I would give my vote to that one :D

I'd say Magical Mystery Tour was trippier, but Sgt. Pepper's was definitely a better album. (Magical Mystery Tour wasn't even supposed to be a whole album, it was released in the UK as an EP, which is why it's sounds kinda unbalanced album-wise.)

Magical Mystery Tour has Flying and Blue Jay Way........but just think about Abbey Road's mind expanding tunes - Her Majesty, The Sun King, Mr. Mustard, Because, I Want You (She's So Heavy), etc.

and i must agree, Revolver is trippy in its own right :)

That's a tough one, but I think I'm gonna have to go with Sgt. Pepper out of personal preference. Both great albums though.

Sgt. Pepper was trippier, but I Am The Walrus and Strawberry Fields Forever are pretty out there as well.
