Well, just got home from seeing Skynyrd at The Hard Rock Casino here in Vegas. 1 hour and 20 minutes. Concerts just keep getting shorter. Gary Rossington did not look to be having any fun and looked to be just going through the motions. Man of the show was Rickey Medlocke, jumpin around, fired up, and just jammin and havin a good ole time. But then again, I dont think Rickey has ever let the crowd down, at least he has never let me down, even when I saw him a few times with Blackfoot. Overall, concert too short, and as for the overall performance of the band, on a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7, and that might be a little generous.
All ya have to do is get one more from the road...start to finish is just great..esp gimmie three steps
I've only heard them once, while going through random radio stations. All I remember is... it was awesome!
There is a real great acoustic live version of Sweet Home Alabama here: In The Studio under the 'Live Recordings' page. This site is full of exclusive live tracks. Though I love the LP version, it's better suited for the acoustic live. Excellent. Enjoy!!
Molly Hatchet was a great band, but to compare them to Lynyrd Skynyrd is a travesty. In the late 70's to early 80's, you could be shot for making the comparison. Hey, I love Hatchet, sometimes more than Skynyrd, but that was because I grew up with Skynyrd, and Freebird and other songs were just played to death. It got really tiresome. I saw Ronnie Van Zandts last concert at the Oakland Coliseum(Day on the Green) before the plane crash. I still have a perfect condition Street Survivors album unopened with the flames, as well as a Japanese cd with the flames. I have every Hatchet album, and consider their album covers to be the best in rock, along with Roger Dean covers. Danny Joe Brown was the ultimate. I have seen the original Hatchet, and the reincarnation known as Gator Country. But the 2 do not belong in the same breath. Both great bands in their own way, but apples and oranges when it came to style. Many dont see this, but Hatchet was more rock while Skynyrd was more bluesy. Both southern, but that is about as close as they came to each other.
In reality, some media pushed Hatchet so that the young generation could get back to listening to LS....did it work out? I dunno.
