smoking shouldn't conflict with any meds you have to take, and may help put you in a state of mind to access certain neural pathways which would assist in moderating your "illness" i've never thought of schizophrenia as an illness - i've always felt they were just peeps who vibrated at a slightly different rate than the rest of the world, and therefore their realities are a bit different from everyone elses
if one chooses psych meds then one should only be on those meds and touch no other "drug"(or alcohol) ... Yes they can n do interfere with them ... Meds are simply a way of masking the real issues at hand , they do not solve or fix the problem..
You don't "have to" quit smoking. It might be a good idea though, at least until your meds / other treatment start to kick in. Introducing weed adds another factor to your illness that will make it much more difficult to diagnose or identify possible treatment methods. Ask your doctor. I'd be surprised if he or she didn't recommend you quit, but you should be able to tell the difference between "drugs are bad mkay" and good, medical reasons why it would be in your best interest to quit.
What kinds of meds will they give you? I'm assuming Depakote and perhaps Seroquel. You can still smoke with those. It's true that smoking lots of weed COULD make your shchizophrenia progress more rapidly and/or make it a little more debilitating, but that's not likely. Psychedelics, on the other hand, could end up fuckin you in the ass, so I wouldn't recommend tripping anymore, unless you just do it VERY infrequently, which shouldn't be a problem.
Hasn't the medical establishment in Canada tried LSD to see if it helps schizophrenics? Is anyone aware of this?
I flipped out on Seroquel I felt like I was falling off this cliff, I became so depressed and suicidal. I was getting more and more upset
I have smoke on my meds before, one time I just started a new med and I was smoking a crap load of pot. I became none response. All I would do is stare at the wall, my sister would ask me a question and I would not reply. after the pot was gone I would wake up every 5 mins in a panic
I just googled up LSD and it's use in schizoprenia. It sounded like there could be a breakthrough in treatment. It has to do with neurotransmitters and relates to a chemical process.Check it out.
In my opinion you should ask your doctor about possible reactions and not just people in the forum, get a professionals opinion.
this is probably the best advice here. i'm either schizophrenic or bipolar. not sure what my technical diagnosis is, but based on the meds i'm on, i gander it's probably schizophrenia or schizo-effective. (i'm prescribed abilify). it's supposed to be the drug with the least harmful side effects. relatively new one, i think. i just started being honest with my shrink and actually taking my meds. it's seeming like i actually need the weed to control my mood and combat some of the side effects, but that could just be the withdrawl symptoms from the weed combined with the stress i've been going through, combined with the fact i didn't ween myself on the meds, instead starting em off full blast. anyway, yeah. my advice to you: take your mental health seriously. those mental hospitals are no fun.
anyone on here(unless they are a licensed nd practicing phyciatrist) can tell you if you should stop smoking, i suggest you go talk to one
definitely need a link on that one before it's given any merit. actually sounds really dangerous. hell, i've described my trips as "temporary psychotic episodes" before.
