didnt have internet or a camerea when istarted but theres 18 year pics in my album and 19 years is comming up this week so ill be tryin to post a new update soon

just tell yoir gf that dreads bveen around thousands of years b4 the 1st comb was invented so ofcourse they happen on theyre own
this whole new instra drewad backcombing fad has only been around as short number of years (maybe 10?) and has been puyshedd if not creatted by the wax vendors who try proffitting off "fashion dreads"
while those whjuo are more firmly entrenched in dread culture still preffer4 the neglect route ..maybe preffer isnt the word id guess most would insist its the only acceptible route

I really admire what you say, but you gotta understand, most jobs would fire you in a SECOND if you try going all natural. Which is why I chose back combing. It starts out neater and then when you get your sections all diddly doo da'd, you can just let them babies do what they do(or that's what I'm doing). I wash with only water, and I don't put ANYTHING in my hair.
And, my job doesn't mind because it's not a big fuzzy mess nest on my head.

i am going the neglect route and if you look at my time line, http://ravenmikhail.blogspot.com/
i am 3 months in and you can see that my hair is dreading itself and it does not look like a big nest of mess. i tried the backcombing way, which is up on there too, and to be honest, that way looked worst and my job had a issue with that route but they are fine with the neglect route. only thing i do is wash my hair every sunday. other then that i do not do any thing to my hair. i have noticed that if you keep your hair clean during the dreading process, it does not look to bad as of three months. i say if you want to go the neglect way, go for it!

That must be my problem... I'm not entrenched enough in the dread culture. Or is that really even a problem at all? To me my hair is just hair and not a way of life... guess I must just be a fashion victim. You caught me.

Personally, I think you can have dreads for whatever reason you want and what other people think isn't important...
No disrespect SE, I mean this in the nicest way possible, but your reason for dreads is no more valid than mine. I'm happy to hear your opinion and learn from your personal experience, but I don't take your word as the gospel and no one else should either. It good to learn from what other people have been through, but no one's view is without flaw. All you can do is take in all the info you can and make your own judgments.

What I don't respect about you SE, is the way you seem to carry an elitist attitude and look down on people that think any other way than your own. Even you, despite your wise years, can stand to learn a small amount of humbleness. I'm sure there are a ton of people with dreads that would look down on you for ripping to keep your dreads the size you want. All I want you to understand is that, just because you don't agree with someone's reason or method for getting dreads, it doesn't make their view "wrong" in any way. I'm not proposing that each of us can fully understand anyone else, but at least practice a little more tolerance and humbleness.

There are lots of things we do now days that haven't been around for long... that doesn't demean the value of them in any way. As I've learned throughout my years, the age of something is a pretty lousy way of determining the wisdom of it. Old doesn't = right.

There's my 2 cents and please don't take anything I said as disrespect, as I mean none. But please do try to see why a lot of people don't agree with the way you present your opinion on these forums.

PS- I still consider all of you my dready brothers and sisters... even that asshole that said my dreads were whack... ;) please show a little more support for each other and a little less immaturity and arrogance.

73N5H1 - huh? All that cuz he said that backcombed dreads likely started cuz someone "invented" a product. He never said anything about one being better than the other. I think you read much too deeply into that. It seems like you want to bring up stuff that was dismissed months ago. He even said "entrenched in the dread culture"... not everyone is that and he certainly recognizes it. lol

Every time SE posts in here now someone has to post something like this. It all seems so silly.
