So, my husband took Maddie with him to the polls last Tues. On the way, they heard something about Bush on the radio. She started cheering "Go Bush Go Bush!" He asked her why she was doing that. She told him that her teacher told her class to cheer for President Bush to win because he was good. Now, regardless of who you support, do you think that any teacher ESPECIALLY kindergarten where politics have no place whatsoever should tell their students who they SHOULD pull for?
My pre-school and kindergarten teachers told me that the first bush was good and to cheer him on... same shit, basically.
My Kindy teacher told me to cheer on Reagan. She also told me there were 52 states in USA, man I was confused for years...lol I laugh now but it's not funny. The truth of the matter is, kids are influential. The question we need to ask ourselves is who in influencing our children. One of the main reasons I home-school, I want better control over who is influencing my kids. Sorry for your trouble. Loving you, Lovingharmony
That teacher had no right in inflict her personal opinion on your child! She should know better, and she could get herself into trouble for doing such a thing. Much peace.
I thought you don't have problems like this! I was told to cheer for the president...and it ended up quite bad for him..
I would, except I live in "GOP Country." It's probably the school's motto! I would be wasting my breath. Even my hardcore Republican mom said "talk about indoctrination!" I just explained to Maddie that when she is old enough to vote, she has to make up her own mind. She shouldn't base her decisions on what anyone else thinks- that it is her decision.
Thanks...I wish I could homeschool...It's just not possible right now. It makes me wonder what else goes on that I don't hear about... The education at her school is excellent, but it's things like this that worry me.
that is totaly unacceptable! At the pre-school I teach at, all the teachers were totaly anti-Bush, but we know that there is atleast one student with pro-Bush parents, and if we had said anything about the election I'm sure the director would have been more than upset, even though she doesn't like Bush any more than the rest of us. Even if all the parents were anti-Bush and we knew it, politics has no place in school with kids that young. Especially in the kindergarten, that's when kids are learning how to form opinions, and it's not at all ok to bring politics into that. Even if you don't agree with a parent, as long as they're not physically or mentally harming a child, you must respect thier views!
Go talk to the pricipal anyway. Raise hell!!!! Teachers are supposed to teach kids to think for themselves. If ya wanna teach kids to think for themselves you should start early.I'm so glad my folks raised me to think for myself. When I was akid my folks told me what Republicans and Democrats stood for. When they told me that I said" Democrats sound pretty neat and Republicans sound yucky". BTW: My dad is a preacher and is a Democrat.Cool huh?
geeez...my personal opinion that kindergartners must have voted aside, the teach was out of line. If you are in a non-local control area, go through the school and district ranks, then head for the state level. If you are in local-control (and now's the time to learn) work your way to the school board. Start by talking to the teacher. where you go from there should be decided by attitude.
BTW...do they still do the pledge of allegence every morning in public school? Am just wondering..haven't dealt w/ the school system in eons.
I know that right after 9/11 in my public high school they re-instated it, but I'm not sure if they still do it, they kept it for that whole year, but I don't know about after. My whole time in elementary school we said it every morning.
Yes. My friend has a daughter that is in Maddie's class and also a girl in 2nd grade. Like my girls, her daughters are half-German..(their father is German...I am German). Well, her older daughter came home crying because her teacher told her that America is the best country in the whole world. Well, the poor girl felt offended because she is half-German and she loves Germany, too! It just shows the hypocrisy. They try to teach the kids that everyone is equal, but America is better than the rest of the world!
This reminds me of back when Bush was running against Gore and the Dems went to homes for the mentaly chalanged and promised them candy if they voted for Gore. The sad thing is that people will do anything they can, and take any oppurtunity possible to promote their views...speaking of which YOU SHOULD HAVE ALL VOTED FOR BADNARIK!
