I was stuck with my Auntie and Grandmother for a weekend. They're black, and wanted my dreads to look "raspectable and ting" as they so kindly put it (they're from the Craibbean, Trinidad to be specific) and they put this nasty stuff in my hair! It was petroleum, beeswax and honey! I had that stuff in my hair for two days, and on top of that my aunt (who has had "dreads" for a few months....They don't even look like dreads, just twisted, greasy hair) insisted on twisting them because "they need to be twisted!". I HAVE BACKCOMBED HAIR, NOT TWISTED HAIR! No matter how much I complained, she just kept twisting and waxing...It took a litre of apple cider vinegar, and a big pot of fresh organic rosemary and peppermint tea for the stuff to get out of my dreads, and I'm still un-twisting them. -.-
It's bad enought having to deal with armchair dreadsperts without having to deal with family deadlocked dreadsperts. My mom seems to think she has a part share in my dreads, and is awful keen to rip them apart.
My aunt is only 39...My grandmother was just like "meh"... I think she knew that it wasn't the right way to do it though, I mean, she used to live on an island full of Rastafarians. xP
The Hell was I supposed to do? I was living with them for the weekend, I didn't want to be disrespectful...My granny said that she'll buy my a cell phone, I didn't wanna blow my chances by bitching at them.
you are a fucking pussy. listen to your dare officer and just say no. you had might as well just cut it all off now because they are ruined for good.
why so negative dudes. bro.. they'll be fine just was all the shit out of them... and use really hot water to melt all the wax on the inside of the dreads. you'll be alright
That sucks, I agree you have to speak up about issues regarding your body though bro. I just noticed you are 15. I get why you kept your mouth shut. But if you woud have spoken up you could have opened up a convo with some respectable information that may have helped her dreads as well, yk? You never know how someone may respond as long you respectfully disagree and back it up with sound reasoning.
dude, no matter what people tell you to do bout your dreads, family or otherwise, if you dont wanna take their advice then dont, and if she did live on an island with a bunch of rasta's then she should have been, "dont touch them or do anything to them" as the rastas believe. dont let anyone make you do something you dont wanna do, EVER. its your life, live it the way you want to
