I mentioned this book, The Yage Letters by William S. Burroughs and Allan Ginsberg in another thread. IT's a great, quick read.

If you've got the time, dig into Carlos Castaneda's work. There's a lot of dispute as to the integrity of his writtings, but I guarantee that they'll be fun and entertaining.

He doesnt only write about shamans, but try Terence McKenna. Specifically True Hallucinations, which I believe is mostly about his journey into the Amazon to take part in ayahuasca ceremonies.

I just downloaded this torrent entitles shamanism and it literally tells you everything you need to know in a series of ten or so books. Every book has the same focus but on a different point of shamanism if you know what I mean. I can link you or send it to you if you want. Just send me a PM. I felt just like you before. I have everything you want right here.

It goes from the history, the ceremonies, what shaman eat, their daily lives, and much much more.
