California will vote in 2010 to legalize marijana. The population won't be voting, the reps will or something like that, but they know their supporters want it. check this out even better, perhaps they might pardon some people? maybe thats pushing it a bit... anyway it's long, but here is the link to where these to quotes came from http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/09-10/bill/asm/ab_0351-0400/ab_390_bill_20090223_introduced.html but guys the road shines ahead :sifone: also if it is legalized, the plan is for it to help California mangage its debt, and i think there will be a good lesson in all this for many people opposed for so long
not to be pessimistic, but even if it is passed by the legislature you can imagine there will be quite a movement to strike it down in the courts. i can even see it becoming another supreme court case regarding state vs federal law, in which case the unfortunately conservative justices, who have the 5-4 majority, will not look on it favorably. more annoying than that is the hypocrisy of the conservatives who have always been in favor of state's rights (i.e. banning abortions) except when they disagree with what it is the state is trying to do (i.e. legalizing marijuana, same-sex marriages, the death-with-dignity act, etc). who knows though...either way it is a great step in the right direction. it only takes one state to start a trend. if this actually goes through, even if it is later struck down in the courts, more states will be likely to continue the movement (like with same-sex marriage right now...more and more states are legalizing it once MA initially made it legal).
your doubts are legit and relevant, but im hoping the states debt is enough to encourage some of the people who might otherwise oppose this, to support it and you are right about the trend, one state is all we need. i don't know the date, but i am thinking september 2010 cuz of the link, but I am thinking that the California economy will be in such a place that legalization for taxing purposes would be so beneficial to the state...and then perhaps a domino effect
I think I already knew about this but the only thing that I dont like is that you have to be 21. What are the reasons you have to be 21 to drink alcohol? Because your more mature? Because your more safe when your 21? The only good reason that it should be 21 for anything is that it impairs your ability to drive. And as we probably know, being high isnt anything like being drunk.
yeah dude, but what do you expect. they aren't going to make it 21 right away. there is a national legal drinking age, but for a while this wasn't so, but the federal government bribed states, basically they restricted fundings for roads and such until the states agreed to raise the age to 21. i think the age is steep, but right now we should be thankful for what it is, perhaps after california works its way out of debt, and if people grow more open to lowering the age then california might be able to lower it, but i think thats asking too much right now. honestly, there will still be an underground market, and that will be how younger people get it. i mean i know it sucks for it to be 21, but dude other than that this is pretty fuckin huge
yeah i know, but now people are trying to get the drinking age to 18 again. The age used to be 18 then they keep screwing around with it. Sure its great but in the long run, once its legal everywhere and thats a standard it wouldnt be fair. Im sure under 21 would still have access. Dealers are just going to sell to people under 21 most likley. Unless some how prices are way lowered for legal marijuana and people under 21 have access to it, but that wouldnt be a big amount of people. I hope this shit passes though for sure. Im just saying though. Fuck any age restrictions that you have to be older then 18 for.
if it takes a 21 yr old age restriction for lawmakers to agree to make it legal, then that's what should be done. i think it's rather silly to even make an issue about it at this point because we are starting this legal debate with little or no leverage. getting it legal, however many hoops and regulations we need to agree to, is step #1, and without a doubt the biggest step. once that is done and we have proved that legalizing pot was in the state's or countries best interest, then we can talk about lowering the age limit.
I know, im not saying we should be saying this to law makers NOW. Im just saying. Eventually it really should be 18.
i agree with some of what's been said here. a step forward is a step forward. it helps that the majority of americans already believe it should be legalized.
I'd vote yes. I don't think smoking pot is bad and its a stupid to have penalties for something like that. Next stop: Get rid of Censorship (I would of preferred this before the legalization of marijuana though).
what kind of censorship? and just to clarify guys...the people aren't voting, but there is still much hope! :sifone:
