I had an interesting breakthrough while meditating today, I had a very wordless realization about duality (best way I could describe it was I saw for a few hours that all thoughts were questions, and to answer ["yes and no"] intuitively without actually thinking yes or no, is something of a shortcut into a thoughtless state). Much later in the day, I was free writing while high and came up with this, thought it was worth sharing: "The illusionary dream world of thought exists as matching pairs of dualistic opposites. I think that this is because of the binary nature of consciousness, expressed as duality: everything exists simultaneously as 0 and 1. On and off, up and down, light and dark, good and bad, true and false, self and other, left and right, big and small, so on and so on. Every apparent object is simply an equation for each possible dualistic aspect of it: everything is made out of the possible sides of each duality that it is subject to. Things are either big or small, things are true or false, things are self or other. This labeling of dualistic opposites is what makes objects exist: our reality is a random collage of dualistic binary states, split exactly 50/50 between 0 and 1, in every possible way. Because of this, reality can't be said to be completely a certain way, or completely a certain ANYTHING, because EVERYTHING about it is made out of 50% one way and 50% the other way. Reality is 50% bizarre, and 50% completely normal. Reality is 50% interesting, and 50% boring. The argument the above paragraph is making has two possibilities: it is correct, or it is incorrect. Ultimate Truth is not the answer "correct" or the answer "incorrect". Ultimate Truth is that which exists outside of the binary duality. Truth is the real subject at the controls of the binary math equation, which includes the self of thought and everything existing in time." ["yes and no"] is god's name ps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AGD78mWcss&feature=related is what god sounds like when god sings
I think the universe does not consist of yin and yang - only our consciousness does. We try to reduce the yin and yang to a constant, a number, a value. And then we call this physic 'reality'. But the true reality is likely to be undefinable. what does this mean? It means we should 'pass over it in silence' or something. Maybe this is unfortunate to you.. because you were told as a child that science was finding out what reality trully is
Paraphrasing Lao-Tzu: The one creates duality, from duality comes the third, from there spring all things. The whole point is returning to that singularity.
So along that same thought pattern, I believe that is what life and time is really about. All things were one in the beginning and will be one in the end, the beginning being the start of time and the end of it. Life exists outside of time, so it is the point of our existence to go through this test of time. During this period of time there is duality for all things and during the before and after, all is whole. Good and evil, man and womam, light and dark, sun and moon, left and right, up and down, life and death, etc. Even prior to the start of life, the duality still existed (matter vs vacuum, hot vs cold, etc)
