Mix 1/4 cup water with 1/2 cup white vinegar and a few drops of tea tree and lavender essential oils in a spray bottle. Spray on your dreads-do not rinse out! The vinegar smell will dissappear as it evaporates.

You can use the recipe and just spray it on the walls, etc that have mould. Wash your clothing with 2 cups of this recipe in each load of laundry.

Hello everybody! Sorry that I have not posted in a while ive been dealing with some pretty big issues on the homefront. Sadly I have not tried anything yet because of the issues. I have read through everything and am very happy that im getting all this help. Oh btw sorry for creating that small war between a few of you guys :( And to answer a few of you I use shampoo and tightening gel that I bought from Knottyboy.com. And I gave it some thought, I have beads all over my dreads and I think they were trapping moisture under them near some of the roots. So now im not putting them in unless I know 100% that my hair is dry. And to what tannaleigh said its almost exactly like what you said and It only happens when they are wet. It does have a faint smell to it but its nothing to me really I think its cause almost everything has a smell in some kind of way lol.

Yes because SE has money invested AGAINST the dreadhead companies, thereby increasing his profit with each person he advises not to use wax.

Where the fuck is his motive to use scare tactics? Its not a fucking scare tactic, wax is gross and will build up and get gunky and shit, an easy way for mold to grow.

Dont say shit like that if you dont want him to swear to you in his reply. Yeah he can get really into it sometimes with people, hes gotten snippy with me about other shit, but at the same time listen to what the fuck your saying.

i was wondering the same thing...
that "tightening gel" sounds nasty. probably has something to with the build-up you're experiencing.

sounds like the tightening gel is the cause of your problems. i still have a jar of that stuff from 6 or 7 years ago when my mom got it for me. when i did use it, it got all white and crusty and smelled like pine sol

yeah i have used gel on a friend's locks before and he got exactly what you described. it's especially bad if your hair isn't fully dry before you apply it.

i got it so i could tame my loose hairs down for graduation pictures or something but it ends up just looking like you have horrible dandruff. i would just use straight aloe if i ever used anything in my hair again

Ok im gonna stop using the tightening gel since that seems to be a big no no hahaha. Thats what I thought the problem was originally but I figured I was crazy cause why would a reputable site sell something that sucks lol but that was just me being dumb cause lots of places sell things that suck :) So im gonna try some of these remedies in like a week or so (hopefully) and im gonna stop using the gel and see what happens. Ill post again after I try it out :) And try not to kill eachother before I get back lol

for everyone's info... knotty boy's tightening gel is nothing but aloe vera gel with some lime juice mixed in, so I doubt that its the cause for it.

I'd say the best thing to do would be to wash with a high PH concoction... the diluted vinegar would be good. Just mix some up in a bucket and soak your dreads in in it for a little while, then make sure to rinse and dry really well. And let us know how you're coming along afterwards.

I've found knottyboy's products to be fairly good, but way too overpriced and easier to make yourself. I suppose they're good for the convenience if you're a lazy fuck like I am sometimes.

Iv had dreads for about 3 mths now. i started them wrong... i crotchet plats until they were tight as.. they'r starting to come around now, but just then i found some lintish crap in them.... it looks like rainbow coloured fluff, but its dead set stuck right in my dreads... mostly in the fluffy hairs surrounding my dread. i hav to either rip my dreads apart or cut it out to remove it... can somebody please help me... plus, iv never used this site before so im still learning how to work my way around it. is it lint or mold tho?
