Okay, I'll tell you a story. Then tell me something interesting about you, like your aspirations, then I'll tell you something interesting about me.

My sister in laws a zoologist, and she attended this lecture in new york, which I got to watch a bad VHS copy of because she wanted us to see this guy talk. The speaker was asked when his interest in conservation started.

When he was a kid, he had a major speech impediment, This was the 60's and they didn't really know what to do with stutterers, so he was put in special education classes. "The kids at school mocked me, so I never said a word till I got home and talked with my pet turtle." When he got older he realized all the animals around were like him, "they could feel like me but they had no voice. So I promised them when I got my voice, I would use it to speak for animals."

The zoologist is now head of a major conservation society out of new york which works to preserve big cats. The point, Is, that with a little nurturing, the struggles which kids with learning disabilities face, often springs adults able to empathize and create in ways that most people can't.
