what method are you using? honestly for the first 3 months i would do absolutely nothing to them. because any maitenance will just come loose. believe me, i know from experience. just wash em when you want and that's it.

Anything you do will delay the locking process at this point, except a good 'pooing when you just can't stand it any longer... Nice start!

theyll get even looser still mate, just chillax. dont be tempted to backcomb them again, or use wax or anything.. loooooooadss of mine have pretty much fallen out, and 4 months later theyre no closer to knotting back up =]

the more you "maintain" them (i.e. palmroll, crochet etc.) the more you prevent young locks from matting on their own. you will start to see some results after 5 mos. or so. re-backcombing them doesn't make sense since you would be destroying any progress you've already made with them. wash your hair as often as you want. i usually wash mine a max of two times a week b/c i saw my scalp getting dry and flaky and it's hard to get flakes out of your locks..

yea, just leave them til they lock by themselves. mine are 4 months old [backcombed] and theyre just starting to matt up and feel a bit more dreadlike.. timewise it varies massively. a few of my sections fell out, so theyre knotted by the root but then about 7-8 inches of just normal hair, so these ones are obv ganna take longer to knot up than the others that are matting

its bad to rebackcomb because it destroys any progress, destroys any knots that youve made, or are forming

wash your hair as soon as you want/need. i waited 5 days. tips on how to wash? get in the shower, get yer hair wet, wash, rinse :cheers2: i dont use shampoo on mine, havent for about 2 months. i just use water, and a few people on here use only water, though im planning to do a deep clean on them every few months. i much prefer not using shampoo (i was using knotty boy bar)

I just had an insane laughing fit (well, in my head) at the nonchalant-ness with the use of 'pooing. Thanks for brightening up my day.

By the way, Andylav, you look like Jim from the office, if you are familiar...
not a bad thing at all.

    Dear friend,

dreadlocks take a long time to form. Expect to see real mats of hair from 8 months to a year. If you can't wait that long, I recommend combing out your hair sooner than later.

i can wait that long no prob....i wanted to get them reasonably easy to maintain by christmas time cus im headin off for 7 months to cycle africa, so the plan is jus to tie them back and let them do their thing for 7 months and then ill come home lookin like a complete hippy and get even more weird looks from everyone i meet lol.
