is the hair that was flipped straight and tight or is it matted like the rest?

Perhaps when my camera battery is charged, I'll take some macros of the different sections. I find the backcombed part to be the most loopy. They were backcombed tightely but with big loops, so that may add to the texture. I can say that my hair is mostly backcombed, and probably about two inches root flipped and two inches new growth

its matted like the rest. I'm often asked if I started my dreads from braids, because of the texture.

wool roving extenstions, tied on, then wrapped as one. They've held up pretty well too, but they'll be coming out soon, cuz I'm taking out a bunch of crap so that they can be sun kissed :)

how long do you leave those wraps in for? i'd be curious as to what kind of stuff grows in a fomite like that.

These have been in for about a month. I don't think much more would grow in them than would grow in normal dreads. I wash them when I wash my hair, treat it like everything else. I've had a wrap around a dread (without extension) for about six months with no funky smells.

how do wraps affect young locks? i guess they would prevent matting. but, they would also give them a nice round shape.

I used a hemp wrap on one of my front locks that was falling apart. Now that I have it off its one of my favorite. It can help to keep it round, and it definitely helped in matting up the loose hairs.

i'm not trying to be obnoxious...but, how would a tighly wrapped lock be able to mat if there's no movement?

you're not obnoxious, and i have no idea, but it did. My guess (and this is silly, but the only reason I can come up with) is that it was a hemp wrap, so rough, and it was bendable, so the hairs could sort of rub up against one another. But to be totally honest, I wouldn't believe it either. but I remember my sister pointed out that one dread was falling apart (this was when i was having my kid) then a month later I wrapped it. That wrap was on for at least 8 months. I took it off when I dyed my hair brown. And it has three loopies in the end of it. So most likely it did hinder the amount of dreading that would have happened had I just left it, but it did infact shape it nice, and dread more than when I last saw it.

So as you can tell, I brushed them out after two years. So the next time someone asks you if you have to shave your head, now you know. My dreads were definitely mature. took about a week, or 1 to 1.5 hours each dread.... and I had a grocery bag of old hair when I was done :)
    See ya around :)
