My friend and I are planning to backpack Europe! :D.

We plan on starting in (Rome,Italy) and ending in (Amsterdam).

    Any tips?
Know of any places where we should visit?

Anyone want to come with us? :cheers2:

Of course this won't be happening for another... Hm... 2 years perhaps, because I need to raise money, and I don't even know for sure if my friend is even serious about going.

So if anyone would like to become my friend, I'd be highly appriciative!

    :)

Hey, I plan on doing the same some time in 2010 - 2011. I have a couple of buddies that might come. Unfortunately I can't find many people who want to do the same thing. I think it'd be a whole lot more fun if we had a group instead of just two or three people.

I've already been to Germany this past month for my brother's wedding, and it was sooooooooooooooooooooo much fun...even though I was only there for a week, it was the best week of my life. I can't wait to go back :)

    PM me!

I backpacked Europe last year, it's great but do save money- it's expensive.

Tons of things to see. I recommend Paris, and you may a well since you are heading up to Amsterdam anyways, tis more or less a train ride away.

But go to Prague, that place is wicked (highly recommend the black light theater). The food is also the best i've eaten. I was also lucky enough to see the Terra-cotta Army exhibition when I stayed there.

Berlin is great for clubbing. I stayed at the Baxpax hostel, has a little spa area on the roof, and is just off the main straze. I would go to that place, it's not too expensive.

Otherwise, I saw Vienna, Budapest, Amsterdam and Dubrovnik and they were all flawless.

I could go on all day about each but it would take too long :p

But do it, tis really great. Americans I stayed with in hostels really loved Europe because of how different it was to them. Not sure if that means anything to you, but I met some wonderful American backpackers and they were just a lot of fun and dull of compliments!

I just got back from a backpacking trip.
Berlin, Paris, and Amsterdam were easily my three favorite cities, but I highly recommend saving a bit of extra cash and heading to Interlaken in Switzerland, you'll thank yourself for it.

    Definitely :D

There are so many beautiful countries in Europe. Germany is lovely, Norway, Finland. If you go to Belgium, definitely see Bruges, very quiet and peaceful, but so pretty.

The real advantage of having a travelling companion or two is that rooms are cheaper. The downside is that you'd better be able to get along with your companion very, very well because you're going to spend so much time together. Sometimes it's a good idea to split up for an aftenoon or an evening or whatever to give each other some breathing room.

Learn at least a little bit of the local languages before you go, and you'll have an easier time meeting local people, reading menus and signs, etc. Yes, lots of Europeans speak English, but things seem to go better when you speak at least a little bit of something besides English.

Take lots and lots of pictures!
