Now, I don't know what your definition of arctic is.. but I've "done" proper arctic, and I've "done" tropical, and I would easily stay in the tropics if I could choose. Insects suck, but they are a minor nuisance that can be dealth with much more comfortably than cold. The only good thing about the arctic is long days/midnight sun in summer and northern lights in winter. Snow can be fun, too, but the novelty wears off pretty quickly.
I Had Snow Here About Two Weeks Ago, Granted It Was Only A Few Flakes, But It WAS Snow. In What Part Of This Big Brown Land Do You Live Laura.?? My Guess Is Alice Springs. In Which Case......Noooez...Snooowz...Neeverz...Eveerz... Cheers Glen.
I disagree. The bugs are so bad this year i have taken to eating mass quantities of garlic and spraying all my clothes in bug spray. ..and I still end up covering myself in hydrocortizone nightly I'd much prefer layers, blankets ,fireplaces and booze .:cheers2:
I'm exaturating arctic. I lived in Boston, MA and Madison, WI. Both of them I loved. In the cold you can always put on more layers, in the heat there is only so much you can take off before you start to flay yourself. I won't ever get used to the bugs. Constantly flying around in my face, don't have the good sense to die before entering my personal space. I lived in Phoenix, AZ for 17 of my 24 years on this planet, and I am soooo sick of heat. FL is no better.
While taking a 3 day bus trip one time I met a family from Austrailia. I started talking with their teenage son who said that it could be hot and muggy as hell at his house, but then he goes to his grandmother's and it'd be snowing. I was amazed. I didn't know that it snowed there ever. Of course I've never been there. What's your excuse, how long have you lived there?
nah i don`t think so. i love snow. i really love it when it is tick and full and really just massive snow. when it has fallen so much it is almost to your knees. and the snow absorbs the sound, so i always thought it is so magical the way you can hear the sounds at winter time...like echoes, really silent and chill. it`s just prett. There are some birds that sing even in the most snowy times. and it`s not cold at all when there is snow.
True that. Clouds help with the cold too. My mom says that when she was a kid in Alaska she loved it when there was tons of clouds. Bingo!
I feel you guys on the bugs, really. They're annoying as holy fuck. But while it's comfy and nice to cover yourself in blankets and get drunk to fight the cold, it's not always practical. Some places of the world they allow a bit of snow to keep the wheels of industry from turning; this is not so in places with proper, or even slightly, arctic conditions. School is never out, work is never off, you have to battle the cold and make do. Insects can be a real pain in the ass when you're chilling on the porch or whatever, but they rarely keep you from doing the things you need to do. And the heat.. it can be strenuous, but it's generally not going to get in the way of your day-to-day.
This is true about the clouds, I used to love wet days when I was a kid because at least it wasn't fucking freezing. Snow can be awesome fun, but also terribly inconvenient.
The hell it's not. I work at night, so I have to sleep during the day. When it's so hot even your a/c does jack you can't sleep.
I'm bad at that kinda stuff I didn't even know there was a desert in the middle until about a month before I came
Only after you’ve reached the age of 30 Some of my most vivid memories as a kid were during the winter which included building snowmen, snow forts, igloos, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, tobogganing & sledding, and the proverbial snowball fights during recess :cheers2: Also, I made tons of cash shoveling out my elderly neighbors driveways Hotwater
