question the hippie in yourself? Or should you automatically know your a hippie? I don't question myself because I don't agree with the views (I do) or anything else but rather because I respect the hippie. I respect the past and the very bright future of the Hippie. I firmly believe in peace, love, understanding and respect so much I don't want to do anything to lessen what the "true hippie" stands for. It's not a "cool scene" to belong to for me. I want to find out who I am (as everyone hopefully does). I am not saying I need the label to be happy with myself. So basically what I'm asking is did you know you were a hippie right away? Or was it something you were all really interested in and found out it was for you? A lifestyle that matched? Sorry if this question is pointless or hard to understand. It's very hard for me to put what I want to say into words face to face so it's even harder trying to type it! Peace and God Bless!
I don't label myself a hippy. But I agree with the "lifestyle that matched" remark. It's the closest thing, and when I was younger, I felt the need to belong, so I chose to belong to hippies. I'm cool with just being myself, alone, and living as I see fit. Questioning yourself is never a bad thing. It leads to learning about yourself, your mental capacity, and lets you grow. In fact, I think a good "hippy" is constantly questioning and thinking about what's going on around them. Then they'll seek enlightenment of some degree.
Thank you so much for your wisdom its greatly appreciated! I love how you said its a state of mind, thats exactly what i've been missing when I'd ask myself this same question over and over again. I also wish I met more like minded people in real life. I will be truly honored to meet a fellow hippy. Hopefully I will be as wise as you when I grow up.. GOD BLESS.
Being a hippy is in the heart and mind. if you share the ideals it does not matter if you dress like one or even if you work for the 'man'. Hunter S. Thompson, Robert Crumb didn't look like hippies. And many people who wear the hippy 'uniform' just to party don't have the ideals in their hearts. Question everything and don't trust 'authority'.. peace and love haint and littia
I havent come across Robert Crumb yet but I promise you I will because I cant read enough about our Culture! I have heard about Hunter S. Thompson he wrote my favorite book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". I also read his article he wrote about the Hippies for Time Magazine. Im so happy I actually have wise true Hippies to ask questions too. Thank you so much!
since before i knew what a hippie was when i was in elementary school i just believed in being myself and not caring what others thought, dressing and acting how i wanted, not getting into meaningless fights over trivial things. as i got older i tried to fit in and be what i wasnt but now im back to my old lifestyle of doing/being what i feel. its a much better way to live and im happy with myself. people call me a hippie, and if thats what i am or seem to be, i wont complain because i also respect the hippie and its not a shameful thing to be in my opinion.
